How we Plan to Stay fit and Healthy in 2021

2020 was an exceptionally challenging year. One of its main challenges was the current pandemic. It raised global awareness about health following millions of deaths worldwide. The pandemic is not yet over – and there are the usual illnesses, too. Here are six tips we are planning to use to keep fit and healthy in 2021. I’m sure they are frugal and doable things for you too.

1.      Practice Good Hygiene

Practicing good hygiene is one of the remedies recommended by authorities to curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Research has revealed that the virus can stick on surfaces for days. Fortunately, washing and cleaning with alcohol-based antiseptics kill this virus.

You should see the full routine of cleaning we do when groceries are delivered to us! It’s done with such precision, you’d think we belong to an army. At 4:28 of this video below, you can see what I mean.

It is recommended to practice good personal hygiene by washing your hands and body regularly. Additionally, keep your surroundings clean and wipe all exposed surfaces.

2.      Eat a Healthy & Balanced Diet

Foods contain the ingredients the body needs to stay fit and healthy. As such, develop a healthy and balanced diet.

Include foods that contain all the necessary nutrients for optimal health in your diet. Get plenty of vitamins and minerals, as they are necessary for a strong immune system. Additionally, eat more foods containing antioxidants to cleanse your body of disease-causing free radicals.

We have bought some multivitamins as well as some extra vitamin D supplements. Vitamin D is good for the immune system.

On the thought of healthy eating, we are well aware that we need to cut down on the carbs and fats. It is something we are currently working on.

Our glass of green juice is a recent re-addition in order to help to boost our immune system too. We use cucumber, celery, ginger, lemon juice, and a green apple to create a drink for first thing in the morning before we eat anything. It is full of goodness and sets us up well for the day.

3.      Exercise Regularly

Exercising is one of the healthiest practices recommended by health experts. It has extensive health benefits, including boosting the body’s natural immune system. To this end, exercising regularly has been linked to a longer and healthier natural life expectancy rate.

Exercising also helps burn excess fats and calories while also keeping the muscles strong and toned. It is one of the top reasons why models and athletes are always in such good shape.

We must admit that we fall woefully short here. We are so afraid of leaving home that we only manage a little walk about once per week. When we do go out, however, it is so refreshing and it feels good to have my heart racing a little. I know it is good for my health. Hopefully, we will be able to get back to being able to go to the gym or for long walks too. You should see my usual walk! It has a beautiful lake and all! We can always dream and live in hope.

We may have to sort out some space and try to get in some type of exercise equipment. We’ll see. I’m thinking to start off with these bad boys as they take up very little space.

4.      Get Enough Sleep

Sleeping enables the body to rest and recover from small problems. For example, the body produces hormones that help cleanse the body when you are sleeping. Additionally, the body recovers from accidents and serious conditions quicker when you are at rest. We, therefore, need to quit the late-night TV watching and allow our bodies to rest and rejuvenate.

Sleeping also helps rejuvenate the body, helping you relax after a long and tiring day. It also gives you the energy you need to face every day of 2021 with optimism. As such, get at least eight hours of sleep daily.

Here are some tips if you are finding sleep difficult.

5.      Maintain Healthy Personal & Social Relationships

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced people to isolate themselves from the public. People are even working from home. Many people are spending days locked up in their homes all alone, and it is posing a threat to their mental health.

People are social creatures. You need people who you can talk to about your personal feelings to ease the burden on your mind and heart. As such, nurture your personal and social relationships to maintain a robust network of friends.

We make it a habit now to give a call to various friends and relatives just to keep up with life and to try to maintain some degree of normalcy too.

6.      Ditch Unhealthy Habits

These practices are not helpful if you set your achievements back by engaging in unhealthy habits. There is a wide range of unhealthy habits, most commonly drinking and smoking. Do away with whatever you know is unhealthy for you to experience more of what life has to offer.

Final Thoughts

Hopefully, 2021 will have better things to offer than 2020. Whatever the case, however, you should be prepared by staying fit and healthy. Fortunately for you, these six tips work every time!

Now over to you! Keep up with the conversation and let us know what changes you plan to make this year in order to be fit and healthy.
