Money Blogger Corinna Talks Love and Money for Valentines

This post may contain affiliate links

During the Valentine period, hundreds of pounds will be spent in the name of love. But does the amount of money spent even equate to the amount of love we want to show? The most recent statistics I found were startling! It is said that females spend more on their Valentines than men. Does this surprise you?

Well, this year, I am chatting with a few of the UK’s money bloggers to get their opinions on love and money for Valentines. You will find their little snippets inspiring, and in some cases, shocking!

Today features my chat with Corinna who blogs about gaining financial freedom at Inspiring Life Design

Below, I share some of what she shared with me.

Meet money blogger Corinna and hear her take on love and money for Valentines. Read about what she thinks about the amount of cash we part with at this time

Children’s involvement in love and money for Valentines

I think it’s a nice idea to include younger children in Valentines Day – they tend to love that kind of thing. When I was younger I received a card from my parents until I was about 9. After that time I got a bit too old for it, so I would say it’s good while a child is still a junior. I wouldn’t expect children to give cards or gifts though. I might encourage them to make a small card if they felt like it!

Getting personal about love and money for Valentines

Without prying too much, for fear of seeming too nosy, I tried to gain an insight into Corinna’s views on her significant other’s spending habits around Valentines.

“I like us to celebrate Valentines Day and confess that I would be a bit disappointed if we didn’t share gifts, cards and some quality time together. My boyfriend has always bought me a nice gift on Valentines Day and I love that”,

I wanted to find out how far she would be willing to take spending monetarily for Valentine’s day. I wanted to find out specifically if she thought couples should agree to a spending limit for valentines. Why or why not?

“I don’t have a strong opinion either way on this. I think if the couple were in debt, or trying to reach a saving goal then setting a spending limit would be a sensible idea. For me, Valentines is an opportunity to celebrate our relationship and agreeing a budget might take some of the romance out of it. We’re both quite sensible spenders though, so it doesn’t worry me”.

Men on love and money for Valentines

A lot of people have this view that men are really silly when it comes to making the right decisions when it comes to choosing gifts for their Valentine. No wonder so many men take the easy way out and break up with their significant other, to either avoid the frustration or the parting with their cash. I asked Corinna for her views on this (that ‘men are rubbish at choosing/buying proper Valentine’s gifts).

“I disagree with this. I think perhaps some men may not always put in as much effort as they could to choose a thoughtful/meaningful gift, but this could probably be said of women buying for men too! I have had some gorgeous Valentines gifts from my boyfriend”.

Way to go, Corinna’s guy!

Now the fun bit on love and money for Valentines

  1. The year I didn’t get anything – apart from a card, which was nice, but felt like a bit of an afterthought. Not from my current boyfriend, I hasten to add!
  2. What I wish for most this year for Valentine is a diamond ring of course (…wishful thinking!)

Thanks to Corinna for sharing her take on Valentines with us.

Valentines Day is one of those days that sometimes end up getting lost after many many years of marriage. As a young married couple, finances always played a big role in what was purchased. When my children were young, my husband always made a big deal of taking them shopping for a Valentine for Mom. Each year my son would buy me a little teddy bear and I have a whole box of little teddy bears from him stashed away in the top of a closet. Now that the kids are grown and my husband and I are retired, it’s unfortunately just another day. My husband says “I don’t need one day to tell you how much I love you – I show you every day!”

I do understand. Have you considered that it is now your turn to shower him with little things? Do let us know what you think.
