Simple Tips for Home Maintenance when you have Several kids

This post may contain affiliate links

Raising a child is connected with a lot of costs. Parents need to think about everything from food and clothes to toys and lessons. When there are more than two children in the family, however, parents need to be really prudent in order to ensure a good life for their kids without breaking the bank.

In case you are wondering how you can decrease your expenses and save some money for the really important things in your household, I am happy to inform you that there are a lot of ways to do that.

Below you will find some ideas that can help you stop spending money on unnecessary things and still be supplied with everything that you and your children need.

Don’t buy everything your children want!

As we all know, toys are never enough for children and usually, they have tons of them. Instead of buying objects that will amuse your kids just for a day or two and after that will be completely forgotten, teach your children to play together or show them some engaging and fascinating games. This will help them to be more creative too!

In this way, they will not only spend more time with each other but also learn to communicate and enjoy the social contact. The biggest benefit from encouraging your children to play together is that they will see that there are many other ways to have fun than playing with toys. Then, you will be able to buy them things that they actually need.

It is a win-win situation.

Show them what discipline is

Stimulate your children to contribute to the household and help you with the domestic chores, even if the only thing they can do is to put the dirty clothes in the laundry basket. This will help them see how difficult it is for you to clean after them.

Another thing you should teach them is to handle every object or item with care. The less broken and damaged things are in your home, the more time you will be able to use them and the less you will spend on replacing them.

Another great idea is to keep your home well organized, so everything has its own place. In this way you will always know what you have and where to find it, otherwise, there is a chance to spend money on something that you already have. Make sure that the kids know where things are kept too so that they will know where to replace them when they are done.

Say no to the expensive cleaning products and prepare your own ones

Stores are full of all kinds of professional cleaning materials suitable for every need. Not only are they toxic but also not so efficient as their producers promise. Maybe you don’t know but you can clean properly every room of your home using only natural and eco-friendly ingredients such as baking soda, apple vinegar, essential oils, lemon, etc.

Cleaners from Southgate Flat Cleaners suggest this tip that there are so many green recipes that can help you degrease the oven completely, wash the dishes, remove dust, clean the windows, wash the floor and much more.

If you have a big family then you probably have a big house as well, which means that you spend a lot on cleaning materials. However, if you start preparing your own cleanser, you will be able to save some money for more important things.

These are only some of the ways that can help you save on home maintenance with multiple kids. Try a couple of them and very soon your budget will be under control. Thanks to them you will be able to eliminate all the unnecessary expenses and supply your children with things that they actually need.

Do you think these are good tips? What would you add to the list? I would add the following:

  • prepare a rota for the kids with their duties on
  • make cleaning a fun activity
  • extend treats and privileges for doing chores
  • don’t let the work pile up too much so it becomes too difficult
  • Teach kids about the benefits of looking after what they have, including their home

I wish I would’ve given my kids more chores when they were younger. It would’ve made my life much easier.
