Exciting new Footwear for the Season

Essential SS19 Footwear and Shoes

As you all know, we are a few days away from our appearance in the third series of Shop Smart, Save Money and so we are getting our outfits ready for the studio days. During the shopping and cooking challenges, we are ok to wear something flat, black and comfy on our feet but come studio days, we want to up the look a bit. I know lots of people watch TV just to see what is trendy and what the presenters are wearing. So now, we are at the stage of checking out new footwear for the season.
We love footwear. It is the one thing that we are both prone to wasting money on. We have been known to spend too much on shoes, boots and sandals that we rarely wear and sometimes we don’t even remember what we have. But, I have found a way of avoiding falling into that trap.

Going online and doing a bit of research seems to slow me down just enough to stop me from wasting money on unwise purchases. It gives me time to pause and ask myself important questions like – How often will I actually wear these? And are these shoes or sandals really going to be comfortable enough?
So sometimes browsing online actually helps us to drool over the ones we see, love them just enough to leave them right where they are until we are ready for them, and also leave our money in our pockets.
If you click here you will be taken to a great page that will enable you to browse through all of this year’s most fashionable footwear options. It is a great place to start the research and narrow down your options to only those sandals and shoes you are likely to actually use and get some wear out of.
Here are a few of our favourites that we drool over and want to try.

Chunky ‘Dad’ trainers/footwear for the season

You cannot go wrong with trainers. They are one of the most versatile styles of footwear there is. Provided you buy the right pair you can wear them for jogging, going to the gym, playing with the kids or for days out. This year, the chunky dad trainer is the biggest trend. They may look a little ugly on the shelf, but they are far more stylish than you think. So look out, we are going to try a pair and you need to tell us what you think.

Strappy sandals

Every woman needs to have at least one pair of strappy sandals in her wardrobe. They look just as good worn with leggings or jeans as they do with a nice dress or skirt. They are one of the most versatile footwear options there is.
This year, we are keeping an eye out for floss sandals. The ultra-thin straps make them look super elegant. This style of sandal would be ideal for a wedding or a special meal out. Just be careful to wear them in and follow the tips you can find here to avoid suffering from blisters.

Our outfits for one of the episodes have yellow so we may just get this one.

Sliders for the season

For the beach or a short walk to the shops, you cannot beat a pair of sliders. They are super comfortable, easy to take care of and usually very durable. Plus, after a couple of years, they can easily do double duty as a pair of slippers or garden shoes. So, you can really get your money’s worth out of this style of sandal.

High-end Stylized Flip-Flops for the season

When it comes to affordability you cannot beat flip-flops. You can easily pick a pair up for a few dollars. These are ideal for days at the beach or popping out for a coffee. But, if you are planning to walk any distance, a pair of cheap flip flops is not the right solution. They just fall apart when you try to use them like this.

If you like wearing flip flops, consider buying yourself a leather pair instead. This year, a lot of retailers are stocking them and we are tempted to try them. Provided you get the balance between price and quality right you should be able to pick up a pair of high-end
flip flops that you can continue to wear for many years to come.

Wedges

If flats are not your thing, take a look at wedges. They are practical as well as good-looking. Wedge heels do not wear and deteriorate as quickly as other heel styles do, which means that they offer you great value for money.
If you are planning to wear sandals this year, I suggest you read my foot care article. Following the tips you find there will ensure that you will look your best while wearing open style footwear.
