Family Summer fun at Go Ape

This post may contain affiliate links

Do you know that feeling you have as a child when you have a really exciting school trip the next day?

Well, that was us. And it wasn’t just the kids either! I even dreamed about my treetop adventure and it was almost as good as the real experience.

We want to share what happened when we went for a day of family fun at the nearest Go Ape facility to us in Cannock. Read on for a chance to get four free tickets for your tribe too.

The journey took us about one hour and we had arranged a ride there, as motorways are involved! ( If you haven’t yet read about our driving history, click here.) Now you know we really are twins.

Packing for Go Ape

As it was our first time at go ape, we decided to be as prepared as we could. Haha, we only remembered food! And lots of it. We packed each person a bag with lunch, snacks, fruits, and water. They all came in handy! What do you think we forgot? Read on to see.

Our arrival

The place has acres of land! We arrived just before 10:30 a.m. and the place was already buzzing with families with buggies, some on bikes (there is that facility too), and the queue was building up. Some of us needed the toilet so we had to make a quick stop. By the time we got to the queue, there were a few people waiting to check in for their adventure so that we missed our 10:30 session.

The staff was quite amenable in explaining that we missed our time slot and so we would be put to the next available time. After signing in, and listing the names and ages of our party members, we were given some laminated sheets with the safety precautions to take. Our bags tucked away safely, by the staff, we went over to one of the seating areas near to reception to read, debrief and bounce off each other.

After 5 minutes or so of reading through the instructions, we felt brave and informed enough to tackle the tree top adventure we had pre-booked.

Shaky start

While we were being kitted out with the safety harnesses, and we should have been paying attention, we glanced up and saw movement high up in the majestic trees. OMG! It was then that we realized that we were destined to be up there in a few minutes! Oh no! Out of our party of five ( 2 adults and 3 kids), we all had mini panic attacks!

I think our facilitator noticed that we were scared and were ready to back out! She was clever and suggested that we could do the junior course if we preferred as the course was not as difficult, not as high, but still fun.

The real deal at Go Ape

We gladly took her advice and went back to reception to book for the junior course. The staff member we met at this time was just as friendly and accommodating. After another few minutes of reading the appropriate safety instructions etc., we walked over to the new course and felt much more at ease as we could see both adults and little kids being engaged in a less challenging course that ended with a fun zip wire experience.

This is our @goapetribe yesterday at Go Ape in Cannock. It was an awesome day as we count down the #summerholidays look out on the blog for how you can get 4 tickets to treat your own tribe to this fabulous experience. #goapetribe #blogging #frugalist #blackgirlbloggers #876 #jamaica #representjamaica #challenges

The positives and negatives we experienced at Go Ape are summed up mostly by the kids in this video

Eco and pet-friendly

As frugal lifestyle bloggers, we are well aware of our need to look after the environment so that it is available in good condition for future generations. We couldn’t help but notice the well-kept forest had well marked out trails, cycle routes, garbage bins in strategic spots, and even water containers for dogs. There were lots of families with friendly dogs on leashes. There were lots of excited kids too.

The best parts

Watch the video to see! But we also liked the fact that the paths were wide enough for disabled access. For the kids, the best bit was the zip wire experience at the end of each treetop adventure. We also liked the fact that there was a cafe in case you didn’t pack something to eat. There was also ample space for eating.

It was a fantastic summer day out for us and not only would we recommend it, but we want to take another trip there next half term.

If you would like to win 4 free tickets to the Go Ape activity centre near you, comment on our Instagram pic above. We will choose one lucky reader to win this opportunity to have a fun day out with their own tribe.

Some of our pics of the day

Be sure to check out one of the more popular places for families in the UK. Go Ape has acres and acres of land to explore! See how we got on when we visited. Win tickets too!

Your little ones will like the idea that Go Ape has facilties to host their birthday parties and that they also have the most amazing ice cream flavours at reasonable prices, compared to other venues for family days out. Do check them out and we are sure you will have as good a time as we did.

Oh, the thing we thought we could have packed is a change of clothes as you can get slightly soiled when you land off the zip wire! Now, there’s a heads up for you.

Talk soon.
