Fast is my Word of the Week

This post may contain affiliate links

The week seems to have gone really fast for us. On Sunday night we left home ar 1 AM without even a wink of sleep to catch a taxi, then a coach and then the American Airlines flight to Florida. It was Monday evening Florida time when we landed. Things have gone really fast and I can’t believe it’s time for the weekly reflection already. Jetlag is real and we tried to stay awake on Monday until it was actually bed time.

We had to make a trip to Walmart to get some necessities as American Airlines sent our luggage to Philadelphia instead of to Florida with us. We made sure to check at the baggage claims desks whether we would be compensated if we bought the necessities to last us at least one day. They said yes, and promised that we would get the luggage by Tuesday. So off to Walmart we went and got toiletries, pyjamas and a change of clothes. The total came to just over US $170. We have since sent the receipt off but nothing yet. Oh, by the way, the luggage came on Tuesday, even before we could mail the claim form and receipt. We thought that was fast!

Remember I said in last week’s post that I had requested wheelchair access from the airline? Well it was so handy and saw us whizzing around the airports as if I was in a fast lane. To be honest, sometimes I did feel bad knowing that I am perfectly capable of walking, and walking fast too, at that. But if I had done all those steps, I would be suffering in pain with the flare up of my plantar fasciitis and also I wouldn’t be able to move much for at least two days afterwards. I think I made the right choice.

Thankfully I have a sister here who is a nurse and she ordered me some things that might help with the flare up. I’m willing to give everything a go. The only thing I wouldn’t try again is getting those injections in my heel. They were the absolute worst and they definitely did not help at all. It made matters 100% worse, in my opinion.

I can recommend the pain patches. They worked well enough for me to make a trip to the post office to mail some goodies for friends in different states. I haven’t told any of them that I brought them stuff so it should be a nice surprise for them in the post.

Talking about surprise, we have one sister living in Jamaica and she didn’t seem interested in travelling at all. Well, imagine our surprise when she turned up and surprised us! It’s the first time my mom will have all 7 of her children in the US simultaneously. Cool, huh? So far we’ve seen the other two sisters and our niece and nephews. It’s been great to catch up, eat, chat and laugh together. It’s been years since we have all been together.

This trip too, we’ve decided to show mom some more of what she can do with her phone, such as taking and sending pics, deleting numbers she no longer needs, and blocking nonsense call numbers. Well, what she really wanted to learn how to do, was to buy those pretty things on Shein, lol. When we told her she’d have to save her bank details on the app in order to make purchases, she quickly said no. We thought ‘that was fast’! We are happy that she is fully aware of the scamming industry and is mindful enough to not want to fall victim to them. So we put through a few purchases for her and that was the end of that.

Mom is a plant kind of lady and so I brought her these bulbs that look like poo to add to her collection. I was surprised that they didn’t stop me from bringing them into the country. Even though the bulbs look ugly, the plant is purple and beautiful and has the most gorgeous pink and white flowers. The plant ‘closes’ at nights and reopens the following morning. I’m excited to see her reaction to it. Hopefully, she will love it as much as we do. They were just over £6 for 10 bulbs so we thought that was a good deal.

As we won’t drive when we are here, we decided this week to use the Uber app when we need to get somewhere fast. So far it’s been ok and quite reliable. We will get the bus for some trips though and we keep telling ourselves we are not in a rush for anything, after all, we are on holiday. So it’s late risings and do whatever we want whenever kind of vibe. We did have a live YouTube session on Wednesday and it felt a little strange as the last time we were live was the day of the famous England Vs Spain Euro football match. It went ok and it was nice to be back.

No fast food yet, but I do have Wendy’s and Bojangles in mind. Fresh fruits are plenty and so far we have enjoyed, oranges, mangoes and watermelons. There’s almost no need to cook! We still do though as Mommy loves our cooking and it’s nice for her to take a break from having to do it all herself.

Next week will be more go go-go-go as there are other family members to see, trips to take and just being up and about. Oh, I’ve got a book that I’m reading too and so far it’s kept my interest and it’s going fast too. This is good for me and I love the chance to get to read and relax. Hope you have had a good week too. Thanks to Anne for allowing us to take part in this #WordoftheWeek Linky.

Oh it’s sounds like such a fabulous fun family get together, and I’m glad it’s going well (apart from the luggage) Take care of your feet and safe travels.

Sounds like you’re having a wonderful trip (initial luggage issues aside, but glad you were reunited with your luggage quickly) and how lovely to spend time with your mom and your sisters. Plantar fascitis is horrible. I had a splint to help when I last had a flare-up and it worked well. #WotW
