Happy is our Word of the Week

This post may contain affiliate links

With us, it doesn’t take much. If we have a week where there’s no major hiccups, and most things go well, we are happy. This week, we were. The weather was mostly miserable and grey but we were safe, warm, and happy. Except for the aches and pains that come with getting older, like knee and hip pain, we were healthy and well.

We have revived Happy Hour on our YouTube channel and there was excitement in the air as we chatted with our subscribers about the prospect of hosting one of our favorite Jamaican YouTuber here in the UK. We went about planning out his itinerary and what we’d like him to taste and experience that is British. It was a full hour of laughter and jokes and that really made us happy.

If you can think of any place or experience that is nice and British for him to try (particularly in the Midlands) do let us know.

We are carrying on with our efforts of not spending money as long as we don’t have to so we are sharing with you how to make some of your own household cleaning products. We don use a degreaser in the kitchen occasionally but the household cleaners we make do a good job of keeping on top of things on an everyday basis.

Our meal planning this week worked out really well and we even made pepper jelly that Leisa was in the mood for. And also scones which we had like posh queens with clotted cream and jam! Homemade and so good (the scones).

I feel happy when we can make things that we feel like eating, using the ingredients we already have at home. I know it’s tempting sometimes to go look for a recipe to make something, buy all the ingredients (some of which you will hardly ever use again) to make something.

For our no spend report this week, Jo spent nothing but on Friday Leisa was meant to prepare lunch (our main meal) but as she was out running errands, it became very late so on the way home she spent a few pound to get us chicken and chips for lunch. It was very nice and we had not had something like that in months. Would you say we have failed the challenge? I don’t think so, but we can agree not to agree, lol. I don’t think it was a necessary expense at all, but sometimes…

This week we had a couple of crochet projects on the go. Jo, using all the scrap ends of thread we have from left over projects, worked on some multi coloured granny squares to pass the time, while LEisa worked on a waffle stitch blanket using shades of brown. None of them are finished yet but they’re both going to be beautiful and make a friend or two happy to receive them as gifts.

So you see, it doesn’t take much to make us happy. Sometimes it’s just the little things. We enjoy linking up with Anne each week to share a word that sums up our week. Wishing you a lovely week ahead too.

I’m so happy that you are happy. I love the crochet projects. I found a cushion when my son was cleaning out the cupboard and it needed a cover so I’m using up some scraps of wool to make a cover. I wish I’d have thought of waffle stitch, I really enjoyed doing that. I also like mosaic stitch but that would have required a pattern. There are lots of places in the Midlands to visit but mostly expensive. If you are looking for free though, you can’t beat a trip to the gardens at the top of the main library! You get to see so much from up there too. Also, a little walk along the canals is always nice. For not so cheap, their is the Sea Life Centre and a little further afield (for you, not me) Cadbury World. (If they don’t want to pay the ridiculous entry price, Bournville is a lovely place and you can get to see the Carillon (played on Saturday afternoons) and there is the Manor House and Village Green, all very quaint. Seeing such an old fashioned part of Birmingham would be amazing for someone from another country. (You can get there from train from New Street, straight to Bournville Station which is Cadbury Purple.)

Happy is a lovely word for the week, glad you’ve had a good week. How lovely that you’re hosting your favourite Jamaican YouTuber and making plans for that. Homemade scones are lovely. Chicken and chips sounds like a lovely treat especially after being out late running errands. I think you’re still doing well with your challenge. Love the colours in the granny squares. #WotW
