Looking Forward: Word of the Week

This week, almost everything we did reminds us that we are always looking forward to better things, time, and space. It certainly is a nice feeling too, and helps to keep the positive mindset which we love.

Our next DIY project started on Sunday. When I say DIY in this case, I mean do it yourself with the help of others. LOL We made a lovely pantry out of a storeroom just off the kitchen during COVID times and lockdown. It is one of our proudest projects so far. Even though it’s a tiny room, we made it beautiful with (almost) floor-to-ceiling shelves from Ikea. We even mixed a little blue paint with a lot of white to paint the room before we began putting the stuff in. We kept three of the shelves that were in the old storage room as they were functional, but ugly. So this week we decided to get rid of the ‘ugly’. We had gone to the hardware store last week and had them cut some proper heavy shelves out of a piece of kitchen counter off cut that they sold to us. We had brackets left over from the kitchen renovation. The problem is, the new bracket holes didn’t line up with the ones that were there before, so it would mean making more holes, patching the old ones after removing the screws, etc. That made us realise that the wall might be ‘ripped’ with removing the old screws, the shelves had to be level, and the wall painted to try to match our DIY mixed paint. So we decided to get help in. It took longer than we had planned, so the patching and painting are still left to be done. We are looking forward to when the job is complete, and we can return all the cans of goods and other ingredients that are now stored temporarily on the dining table.

On Monday, it was another round of treatment at the dentist. I arrived by Uber well in time for my appointment, but they were late calling me in, as it seems like other appointments had overrun. When I got out of the dentist’s, I realised that the temperature was quite pleasant. So instead of getting an Uber back home, I leisurely walked home, stopping every now and again to look into some of the shops and also to pick up some items for our planned Teppanyaki dinner. It was our first time doing this for dinner, and it was really enjoyable, so we are looking forward to doing it more often.

I was pleasantly surprised, too, that when I got home after the dentist, I had done almost 6000 steps! Get in! We are looking forward to Spring and nicer weather to be able to get out more and enjoy some outdoor cooking on the real BBQ too.

On Tuesday, it was our friend’s mother’s funeral. It was a lively, ‘fun’ funeral with lots of singing and laughter. A few of the grandchildren cried, but it was mostly tear-free and a good remembrance for someone who had celebrated 101 years! This reminded me to look forward to the day when there will be no more death, pain, tears, or parting.

I wore a polka dot dress that was bought from Boohoo more than a year ago to attend our sister’s funeral, but then we all decided to wear blue. It was also too close-fitting, but it wasn’t returned because we had plans to try again to lose weight. I am pleased to say that it now fits perfectly fine so am I looking forward to losing even more weight? I think you know the answer.

Talk about looking forward to things… we took out some of our seed trays and pots and seeds to make a srart on seed planting. we will focus on what we can start off indoors. We even took out some pretty pots that we bought at the tip shop in Stratford Upon Avon some time ago.

We even had a look at what AI suggests one of our planter boxes would look like, filled with Cosmos and Zinnias. We can’t wait. Its fun to look at things like this and envisage the real thing, isn’t it?

So, lots to look forward to, especially with better weather coming, although today (Thursday) it rained so much and we both got soaked coming from work, lol. It wasn’t too bad and we got home and had our bowl of soup made from the day before so we could have something ready prepared to look forward to. All in all, it was a good week and we are  joining in as usual with Anne and the word of the week.

Hope you will share in the comments what some of the things you are most looking forward to.
