Our Word of the Week is Photos

Just giving myself some grace this week but still want to keep up with doing my word of the week post and sharing with others over on Anne’s blog. This week we took a week off work to get some travel, appointments, and downtime in. So here we are sharing a few photos of how our week went. Hope you enjoy.

Church was good and a few of us ‘repped the Jamaican colours for the day. We feel blessed to be from such humble beginnings. Recently, I saw a Tik Tok that said which country should be voted as the capital country of the world. Jamaica got the most votes! Which country would you vote for?

On Sunday, we took a coach trip from Birmingham to Dorset, Weymouth to be specific. We’ve never been to the south of England, and we had a really relaxed coach trip, mostly. There was a very noisy little boy who kept shouting out what he could see as we passed fields of animals, sunflowers, corn etc. I don’t mind him telling his mom what he could see, but I mean he screamed everything and kept repeating it to his mom until she acknowledged him. The whole front section of the coach was very annoyed with them and we were hoping that after they went to the beach and got tired, they would sleep on the return journey. Not a chance of it! He screamed everything on the way back too. Sometimes he even went into a fit of screaming when his mom wouldn’t acknowledge him, telling her what he had spotted. He was about 4 years old but very big for his age and I wonder how he copes at school or nursery. Is it just me or do some kids just don’t know how to talk in a normal tone? I am usually very tolerant of others, but this truly got to me.

Our denim jackets did a good job when at times, the cloud covered the sun and it got chilly. There was a lot to see and do, and of course, we bought goodies to take back for friends and family. It was £64 for the coach and about £20 on Uber to get us to and from the coach station. To cut down on costs we packed our own lunch and snacks in our backpacks.

On Monday we woke up a bit late due to coming back almost 11 pm the night before. We noticed that an ambulance was in our cul-de-sac for a long while. We had a feeling of what was happening. Later, it was confirmed that one of our neighbours had died. It’s the same lady who seemed to be the only one concerned when the bins were blown over and used to come out to help us when we needed to clean up the area. The family is deeply saddened and although it was one of the hottest days this week, there just seemed to be a gloominess in the air. So all our projects for the day were cancelled. No photo today, sadly.

Tuesday was so hot that we barely moved! We got our hair washed and dried and then had iced cold drinks in front of the TV all day! Not much else at all! The board and batten DIY we had planned to do in the kitchen will have to wait until another day.

On Wednesday we had a very important appointment that is potentially going to bring some rather exciting news! Can’t share too much on that now but will do in another post. In the afternoon, we got the wood out for the board and batten project and measured up what we would need. We just need to get it cut to our measurement. We will do the painting and installation ourselves.

On Thursday, we took a relaxing coach trip to meet up with a friend in Northampton. We used to work together in Jamaica and although we catch up on the phone sometimes, we had not seen each other in many years! It was a good day out spent at a lovely Emporium there, looking into the shops, and having a meal together.

We are thankfully, all aging gracefully and we thank God for the years of friendship we have had. Our mother-in-law tongue plant at home isn’t doing so well. Thankfully our friend gave us some of hers from her beautiful plant collection. Hopefully it will do well here.

It has been a hot week and the garden is soaking up the water every morning, just as we are. Today (Friday), we will take the train over to Stratford-upon-Avon to spend the day with another former teacher friend and hopefully pop into some charity shops. We are after a few knitted items of a particular colour scheme to use for making pumpkin decor pieces.

Blessings for a good weekend and an even greater week ahead.

What a lovely week you have had. I’ve enjoyed seeing your photos of all the things that represent your week.
I love those colourful outfits you all wore for church. That’s an interesting question about the capital of the world, and I honestly don’t know which country I would pick.
I’m sorry to hear about your neighbour, that’s really sad.
Have a lovely weekend, enjoying the slightly cooler weather.

Fab photos! I love all your outfits for Jamaican Independence Day.
It sounds like a nice trip to Weymouth apart from the little boy on the bus. It sounds like if the mother acknowledged him a little more it might of helped the situation.
I am so sorry about your neighbour.
Ohh! Your appointment does sound exciting and how lovely to meet up with your friend. x

I really love your dresses, I forgot to say in the last post. I think it’s really ironic that we live in the same City and both went to Weymouth the same week. We didn’t go until Monday though and we went on the train. The train coming back was cancelled and we had to get a bus. I’m now thinking of a coach trip if I can afford a wheelchair friendly one. (they charge so much more for the disabled.) We were on that beach a lot last week!

Lovely photos! I can’t remember if I’ve been to Weymouth or not. I’m sorry to hear about your neighbour but good things have also come from the week. Look forward to hearing about your appointment.

Sounds like a nice week overall, although I’m so sorry to hear about your neighbour. Love all the outfits celebrating Jamaica Day and glad you had a nice day out in Weymouth (other than the coach trip!). The appointment on Wednesday sounds exciting – hope all works out with whatever is on the cards. #WotW
