Our Word of the Week is Trying

This post may contain affiliate links

I have a feeling that in my years of doing a word of the week post, the word trying has come up several times. I should have a look. By the way, happy New Year, and all that jazz. It’s our first post since 2026. When we renewed and paid for hosting and our domain name, etc., for our blog, I decided I really must make use of that money by keeping up with some writing. Not only to not waste money, but I really do love writing these posts. It’s just that a few things happened, so we couldn’t write, and then we just fell into a slump of not writing. Life eh? But I am trying to get back into the swing of things.

Healthwise, we are trying to keep up with everything, and so far, we are pleased with our progress. I only managed one day on the walking pad this week as I have been having a niggling pain in my groin. It just came up, out of the blue. I can’t think of what might have caused it as I wasn’t even doing anything strenuous when I felt it for the first time. I guess something is trying to put me off enjoying the one little exercise I get to do.

Nowadays, we’ve spent a lot of time after work or on the weekends playing Scrabble. It’s been really good to keep us from just scrolling social media or watching the telly for hours. We recently got a special 50th anniversary edition Scrabble set. It’s so fancy and even has a turntable, which allows us to turn the board facing us when it’s our turn to play. The old Scrabble game used to have us fussing over who should have the board facing them the right way around, lol. We are trying our best to keep the brain sharp, after all, this year, in December, we will be all of 60 years old!

The weather has also been trying this week. I know it’s only February but oh how we wish it were warmer! Jamaica has had a cold front this week, and I so wish that I were there. It would be so much nicer than these freezing temperatures here. It’s times like these where we appreciate working from home. We truly don’t want to take that for granted. Saying that though, we are not loving how ‘ugly’ and wet the garden is and just wish we could be out there planting things, tending to them and watching them grow.

We are both looking forward to half-term in a week or so to get a break from work, see friends, and basically just chill. Work has been busy and brain-consuming this week. It’s time to engage our brains with other stuff.

Well, that’s our little catch-up, and hopefully we will be back next week, linking up with Ann and other lovely folk, with our word of the week.

Oh, I did have a quick loo,k and it doesn’t seem like we have used the word trying as our word of the week before, but in my mind, we have.

Happy New Year, ladies! It’s nice to see you back again.
Those random pains seem to come out of nowhere, don’t they? I hope it improves soon so you can get back on the walking pad.
Enjoy your break from work x

Happy new year to you both! I love Scrabble too and have a deluxe version with a turntable – it’s does make it so much better when playing. Sorry to hear that you’ve had a trying week and hope that next week will be a better one. Lovely photo of you both. #WotW

Happy new year! Wonderful to hear from you both and it’s good to see you writing again.
I hope your niggling pain disappears as quickly as it appeared. The Scrabble sounds like fun.
I am so over this weather and all the rain we’ve had over the last couple of days. x
