Blessings is my Word of the Week

This post may contain affiliate links

There are so many little pockets of blessings that happened this week that this is what I want to focus on. That’s not to say that everything went smoothly and perfectly but you know us, we like to be positive. I might share some of what didn’t go too well if I feel like it.

Sunday we had a members’ meeting at church which turned out to be inspiring. My takeaway from it is that this life is not just all about us individually. It’s a lot more about how we uplift and sustain each other. My conscience spoke to me about making sure that I wasn’t just living selfishly but for others too. The session was also fun and relaxing and a nice contrast to what these meetings are generally like. I was encouraged and took that as a blessing.

DIY Blessings

Did I tell you that my twin and I are DIY pros? We are not! But in our heads, we want to try so much of what we see others do, especially on the many YouTube videos that we watch. We even tell ourselves that if we weren’t so fat we could do more! Maybe it’s a blessing in disguise because we might have some broken bones from falling down and over, lol. Anyway, this week one of our proudest DIY moments happened. Leisa had this idea to do a slatted wall at the bottom of the stairs where we have a shoe storage system.

Well, we went to B and Q and looked at the kinds of slats they had. They had the colour we wanted in store but not in the width we wanted. We then ordered the gray online and were slightly disappointed when they came as they were OAK GREY. The colour didn’t match the shoe storage system but we decided to persist rather than send it back. It was a nice contrast. So we ordered some strong adhesive that would keep the slats up on the wall. It was comical to see us trying to measure and work out how to cut out a piece so that the slats would fit perfectly around the thermostat for our central heating. We were so careful as we didn’t want it to look like a mess.

So here goes our finished slatted wall, styled with a mirror that we repurposed from one of the bathrooms, a vase Leisa found when she went car shopping for her daughter, and also some faux florals repurposed from around the house. Oh, the reed diffuser was a part of my Christmas gift from my son. All these pieces were blessings to have as it meant we didn’t have to go shopping and spend money on them.

The more we look at it, the more we feel that we should buy some more and carry it down to the end of the wall behind the shoe storage. What do you think about that? And what do you think of the color too? I feel that we should do the stair railings black. The reason is that although they are painted in white gloss, it always takes about a year or so to eventually look cream-colored, not white. The same thing happens to the doors in the house too. Are we the only ones?

This week a friend finally revealed that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer! I knew that something was wrong because recently she’d been taking weeks to months sometimes to respond to our calls or messages. I was so sad for her and could just imagine the anxiety she was going through as well as the anguished and sleepless nights. It took me back to the place in 2012 when I found out that my son had died. I had a lot of questions back then, like why him and why me? Several people reminded me that there are two major forces in life, Light and Darkness, or God and Satan, the same as Good and Evil. What side would I rather be on and encourage people to be on? The side of Good. But the side of Evil is still working to destroy us. And I remember someone sent me this song so I sent it to my friend. It’s called Blessings by Laura Story. I hope it inspires you too, to choose good, despite everything. I’ve sent my friend a long message with some encouraging words but still waiting to hear back. Sometimes I don’t know quite what to say in situations like this.

Blessings from Temu

We got an email from Dorothy at Temu offering to gift us an item and and discount code to share with code: aci369032 for a 30% discount. We chose an outdoor rug that could be used inside as well. At the moment we are using it in the conservatory and it has certainly jazzed up the space. It is quite big and the pattern is lovely. The best part is that it is lightweight and washable. We’ve put it on top of the existing area rug so it is softer and non-slippery. It has brightened our craft space and encouraged us to use it some more.

More blessings this week

  1. Having a hot meal every day
  2. Having a clear mind to think and choose
  3. Friends and family near and far away
  4. Journeying mercies for our mom who made it back safely to Florida from Jamaica
  5. Finding entertainment online to make our lives more fun and varied.

We hope you had had a week of blessings too, and I encourage you to try to count them. Thanks again to Anne for the opportunity to share.

Sunday dinner? Here goes. Yes, Leisa found these lovely plates that she liked and bought them.

I love a week full of blessings. Well done on making the slatted wall. I think it’s entirely up to you but I like it half way! I know what you mean about door and banisters looking more cream than white, I am forever cleaning mine. I’m not sure I’d like them darker though. I have always had white doors. I may think of a light grey for the banister though. I don’t fancy painting it though.

I am glad you found a lot of good in your week!
hahaha! In my head I am a DIY pro too but my fella doesn’t trust me up a ladder or with his power tools. That slatted wall is gorgeous! You’s did a great job! I think it looks fantastic how it is without adding anything. It’s not just in your house where the white gloss turns cream/yellowish.
I am so sorry about your friend. It is truly awful that bad things happen to good people.
That rug is really pretty. x

We had a members’ meeting last Sunday as well. Glad yours was encouraging – ours was a good one as well. Well done on fitting the slatted wall. It looks really good and I like your outdoor rug too. Sorry to hear about your friend. It is hard to find the words in situations like that. I hope that she found the video helpful. #project365
