Holiday is our Word of the Week

This post may contain affiliate links

As I sit here writing this now, I am mindful that next week’s Word of the Week will see us reflecting from over 4 million miles away across the Atlantic Ocean! That’s if we make it, lol. Yes, the jitters have started even though we have done everything we need to make sure that things go smoothly. I’ve even booked wheelchair services on the recommendation of a friend. I will tell you about that in a minute. But not everything is in our control.

This week we harvested some more of the calaloo and also the one tomato that was ripe, and some beans which we enjoy eating as soon as they’re picked. The pumpkins look promising especially if we continue to get rain. We got a good amount of showers about 2 days and nights this week. Although I know the slugs were out, a lot of the plants are more firm and established now so they can stand the bites. The weather hasn’t been too bad too so no coats this week, which is always a plus. The garden is looking really fresh and we are relying more on the rain than the young people to keep it that way for us when we go!

We assume that the calaloo and some of the flowers will go to seed while we are away but that is ok. It just means we will have more seeds to share for next year. Drop us a line if you’d like to try especially the burgundy calaloo. We will have enough seeds to give away.

We have fully recovered from the England football loss at the Euros! We made a big deal out of the whole match and even had an ‘indoor’ bbq. We did the jerk chicken on the griddle pan on the hob and it was really spicy and nice. And we even cooked it live on our channel. We were so pumped and ready for the match but in my heart, I was saying that all the other countries went home sad and dejected so maybe it was our turn. And to be fair, considering we didn’t play very well throughout, it was only fair that the better team win. I’m pleased for Spain.

Who else turned their TV off when the whistle blew and we had lost? We did, so we didn’t wait up for any presentations.

Sad to see Southgate go too. I always think about it and I don’t like the idea. It’s like when the teachers prepare kids for exams and some do well and some don’t. Sure we fell bad about the ones who don’t do well but I don’t think we should be chastised for it. I heard that some people were calling for him to resign and I don’t think that’s right or fair. What do you think?

This week was mostly consumed with packing and getting last-minute things together for our holiday. Unfortunately, my plantar fasciitis has flared up really badly so I’ve been hopping about in pain. Thankfully, this week we weren’t required to go into the office so I’ve been working at home. I could manage that. And I’ve been trying all sorts of home remedies including keeping a piece of onion in my sock because it is said that this would reduce the inflammation. I don’t think it has worked but in my head I so wanted to believe in it.

I was telling a friend at work about it and she suggested that I book wheelchair assistance for the flight! So that is exactly what I did. I am not ashamed, but it does feel strange knowing that I can walk perfectly fine. But I think I will have miles to walk in the airport and that will only aggravate the situation. Pray me up please.

Hope you’ve all had a good week, and see you next week from our holiday spot. The suitcases are all packed with goodies for our friends and families and also for some of our friends’ families who we will no doubt meet up with.

Ohh! I hope you are having a lovely holiday despite your painful foot. That was a good idea about getting wheelchair assistance.
My pumpkins were doing well but I think the slugs have got to them. I am waiting for my tomatoes to ripen, they look amazing!
It sounds like you had a fun evening with the football. The indoor bbq sounds so good. Spain deserved to win, they were the better team. Yep, as soon as the whistle went I turned the TV over. Southgate only managed the team, he didn’t control how the players kicked the ball so no, he wasn’t the only one to blame .x

How exciting!! Much more exciting than the football anyway. I hope you have a truly fantastic time away and don’t worry about the wheelchair service a lot of ambulatory people use wheelchairs…me included. I can walk around my house but one step outside and it’s like my brain doesn’t know how to put one foot in front of the other! I can’t wait to hear all about your adventures so many miles away. Have fun ladies and I hope the foot gets better x
