March is my Word of the Week

This post may contain affiliate links

Straight up, I chose March because there is everything to play for. Having things to look forward to is helping us to get out of the funk we are now in with this weather. We ventured outside in the back garden a few times this week just to check how cold it is, lol. One day we both saw the glaring sunlight of the noonday and quickly got out to the front garden to do some weeding and neatening up in a raised bed and a few pots we had flowers in. We only managed 10 minutes before the clouds covered the sunlight and we were too cold to stay out there. In the back, Leisa has planted out the sweet peas that she had sown indoors in empty loo rolls. They will hopefully run on some trellises we have as the plan is not to buy any petunias this year. In March, we usually start hunting petunias online and looking for new and pretty varieties and colours. Not this year though. No spending is still on, except for necessities.

Our son’s birthday is in March and we have given him his gifts this week as we won’t see him on his birthday as he’s away studying. He collected the boxes of food I had made and he seemed quite pleased with it. It was nice to have him home even though it was just for a day.

This week Jo worked in the office for one day and it was nice to get into the city centre. So much has changed and I couldn’t help but feeling sort of lost and disoriented. Hopefully, when March comes it will be much warmer and we can go into the city more often, even on a Sunday. Oh, Mother’s Day is coming up too. We always think for a minute about what we are going to get our mom. Then we remember that Mothers’ Day for her (she lives in Florida) will be in May so we have some more grace and time to decide what to do for her or to get her.

I had promised myself that come March I would take out my sourdough starter from the freezer and resurrect it. Well, this week I watched so many sourdough things on YouTube and Tik Tok that I took out my starter and fed it. The intention was to make bread one day this week. Imagine my horror when I realised that I fed it with tap water (they recommend distilled or bottled water). So, it didn’t work. I tried again with some more of it and it still didn’t work. I think the house was too cold for sourdough starters. I am no expert at sourdough. I only started my journey and made mine all from scratch on my own with lots of trial and error. I’m very sad that I don’t have a starter anymore and my sister sees it as a mighty waste of flour so I don’t think I’ll start again. If anyone wants to give me some of theirs… lol

Joining in with Anne for Word of the Week. Have a blessed weekend everyone. It’s the last day of February and I am definitely looking forward to March. How about you?

Oh how funny that I’ve chosen February, looking back and you’ve chosen March, looking forward. I might choose March next week as I have so many plans. I’m sorry about your sourdough starter, we love sourdough bread but I’ve never tried making a starter, I don’t think I’ll bother now, I don’t think I could cope with the disappointment. If you can get to the City Centre maybe we can make a date to meet up when the weather is warmer. We can get overwhelmed together. I remember the old bullring (Where Selfridges is now) There used to be a Jamaican dumpling fast food shop and they were delicious. There was also a chip shop and a place to sit outside. Strange to think that was 20 years ago!

Definitely looking forward to that meetup when there’s warmer weather. How about July or August? Perhaps you should set the date and time and let me know so I can book the time off. I definitely don’t know that chip shop nor dumpling shop. How cool would it be if they were still there!

Nice to be looking ahead to March with spring on the way and hopefully some warmer weather. Hope your son has a nice birthday. Sorry to hear about the sourdough starter – I’ve only tried doing sourdough once but didn’t manage to keep the starter going. #WotW

The weather here has been nicer this week, not that warm but warmer. Good luck with the growing. It is starting to feel like spring is on it’s way, I just hope it would hurry up.
How lovely to see your son, I imagine him being so grateful for the boxes of food.
My girls are organised this year and have been out today shopping for my Mother’s Day presents, I am impressed!
That’s a shame your sourdough didn’t work out!

What a shame your sourdough starter didn’t work; it does seem like a complicated process.
The brighter days do so much to boost the mood, I’m glad you got outside even for a little while. I don’t mind the cold so much, but it has been lovely to feel the sunshine on my face this past week.
I hope you had a lovely weekend.
