Mundane – Word of the Week

This post may contain affiliate links

This week has been so run of the mill that I cannot think of another word to describe it other than mundane, so there. That is our word of the week!

We got a few things done which we needed to get done and then we did some cruising too.

Slabbing for New Shed

So since we had removed a lot of stuff from our store room to turn it into a laundry room, the conservatory was looking quite sad since we stored everything there. We don’t really use the conservatory in the Winter months but we do use it a lot in Spring and Summer especially. It had to be cleared so we decided on having a shed installed. Some are amazed that we managed without one for so long. We do have a storage box and we tried to make the garden tools fit in that and then we used an Ikea tiered shelf thingie for smaller garden tools, pots etc. We are hoping that this will be our first and only shed!

So anyway, we needed to lay the flooring/foundation for the shed before anyone would come to erect said shed. If you know us, then you know our heightened fear and anxieties of dealing with workmen. A recommendation had been made for a man to install the slabs. His quote was £375, which we thought was too much, so a trusted taxi driver sourced a builder for us and he installed the slabs which had to be leveled, especially since we had decided on a hard plastic shed rather than a wooden one.  His quote was significantly more reasonable! It just goes to show that these men pick prices out of thin air when they are quoting. None of us are in favour of having to paint/treat shed every year! Also, I think the very wet weather conditions here lend themselves to destroying wooden structures quickly. So we think a hard-wearing plastic one is the best bet.

The slabs were installed and the shed should be coming from Costco today (Friday).

I’m looking forward to having it. The size is 7 x 7 so I am hoping we can keep a section of it decent-looking to use as a garden room. Watch this space.

Come Dine With Me

On our YouTube channel, we host a series of Come Dine With Me where we invite other content creators to collaborate with us. Season one for this year was in January and it was quite successful. Well, episode 2 is due to go out on Valentines’ Day. We are so pleased with ourselves because we were able to film ours this week! Talk about efficiency! This episode is entitled  ‘A Trio of Desserts With a Jamaican Twist”. One of the content Creators lives in Jamaica and the other lives in the US so it should be good. We are looking forward to it now. We have come up with some creative ideas and hope they will too.

Last week’s Come Dine With Me

Washing Machine

This week, the washing machine decided to die on us. That was quite a malarky as we had a fair bit of laundry to do! It was retaining the water when the wash was done. I opened the little trap door at the bottom, cleaned out the gunk, removed a hairpin and a coin, and returned the screw-on cover and door. It still would not work! And we are definitely not getting a workman in to look at it! So we have ordered a new one now which will not come until next Friday. We have opted for a white one with a larger capacity than the broken one. That way, we should be able to wash our duvets instead of getting a new one each Winter. It should be more cost-effective. The dryer is white too so that should give a more cohesive look since the dryer is white too.

Mundane

Those were the most ‘exciting’ things that happened this week which is why we call it mundane. Other than those, we continued with Happy Hour – our one-hour live session with our Youtube subscribers, we watched Home Cooks, a series on Netflix and yes we did do some paid work and housework.

Let’s show you a pic of Sunday’s dinner which saw us being experimental again in the kitchen. We made Jollof rice and Jerk Chicken. What do you think?

Hope your week was much more exciting and we look forward to sharing with you next week what we get up to and seeking an appropriate word or phrase to sum it up.

Have a good week ahead and thanks again to Anne for allowing us to share in Word of the Week.

That Jollof rice and jerk chicken looks amazing and your ‘Come Dine with Me’ series sounds like a lot of fun. How lovely to get a shed in the garden – we keep meaning to get one at some point. Glad you managed to get a more reasonable price for getting the slabs laid. Sorry to hear about your washing machine – it must be a week for it as mine was leaking water this week but thankfully cleaning the drain filter seems to have solved the problem on mine – so far at least! It will be nice to have a bigger one that you can wash duvets in though. #WotW

The shed sounds like a great idea. £375 does sound like a ridiculous price. I am glad you found a better one. I can’t wait to read more about it and how you use it.
I love the sound of the Trio of Desserts With a Jamaican Twist and the Come Dine With Me series does sound like a lot of fun.
The washing machine breaking sounds like a good thing to happen, it’s a bit of an inconvenience now but a bigger one will be better.
Your Sunday dinner looks so good!

We need to get a bigger shed. There are other things that need to happen first but it is on the list! That does sound expensive for laying a few slabs. Sometimes I think these people deliberately over price because they don’t want the job. Glad you’ve found someone else. A broken washing machine is a disaster! so it’s good you found another so quickly.

I never even thought about that! That some men would price the job tooo high because they really are not interested! I can fully see that though.

I need to clear out my shed, it was Graham’s man cave and it’s full of his stuff. He didn’t look after it at all though and I’m pretty sure there are rats in there…thankfully the lawn mower and garden tools are hung just inside the door so my son can get to them to do the gardening. I asked for some quotes on extending my patio and the quotes where ridiculous for a few slabs. It’s a shame because I can’t get very far on grass and I’d love more places to go in my garden rather than two feet out the door! I love your cooking and that you share it on videos, your jerk and jollof rice looks amazing!

That dinner looks lovely, I think my daughter would love to try that meal. She is very picky but does love salad and colourful foods thankfully. We have never had a shed. We always dump things in the garage but I think we will need a shed at one point. My dad always built his sheds. I wouldn’t know where to start #WotW
