No spend is my Word of the Week

This post may contain affiliate links

It’s the second week of 2025 and I am pleased to say that I have stuck to my guns of having a no-spend year. I know that I will slip up sometimes but every win is a win and deserves to be celebrated. I think in last week’s post I said that I was skint and really wanted to save. The last 3 months of last year were particularly costly. Sp here is my highlight of the week, especially money wise.

The week was particularly cold and I felt ‘peckish’ as the evenings drew on. But I was determined not to order a takeaway when sometimes I would have. One day I even put my order on Uber Eats and then I closed the app without actually ordering and paying. I sometimes do that with Shein too. I quite enjoy looking for things I would want, putting them in my basket and then shutting down the app without ordering and paying for anything.

On an even more positive note, I earned £25 for the third month in a row as an incentive for switching my current account to the Cooperative. The initial payout was £75. For the past 4 or 5 years I have switched my current account to a different bank. I do this for the incentive they offer. The most I have made is £250 in one year.

I also made about £12 by answering survey questions on Prolific. The maximum time I’ve spent doing a survey is about 10 mins. It’s worth it. For December I made £55 by completing surveys in my spare time. If you’d like to join the waitlist for joining Prolific, you can click here. Good luck as it’s so good!

The photo above shows the amount of money I’ve made since I started. Last year we could earn some US dollars too, and so far I’ve made $76.65

At the end of the week, the car was still frozen and we needed a few grocery items from Aldi for the weekend as our Asda grocery delivery doesn’t come until Tuesday. So guess what? We took an Uber up to Aldi and Leisa paid and then when it was time to come back home, I paid the £5.13 back. That was the only money I spent this week so not bad, is it?

Great news too… We have decided that for our big 60th next year we would love to do a little celebration overseas with just our family. We are spending each cosy evening discussing all the details and making lists and ticking them off as they are done. We’ve never had a real birthday party so this should be quite nice. Any recommendations for a colour scheme? We don’t want black nor gold nor silver, lol.

We are linking with Anne in sharing our word or phrase of the week and hope you enjoy reading.

Well done with the no spending and not getting a takeaway! It is so tempting especially when it’s cold out.
I love Prolific and earn about £25 a month from it which doesn’t seem like much but it does add up.
That sounds like a great plan for your birthdays! I can’t believe you are both almost 60, I thought you were years younger!! xxx

Well done on your no spend! There aren’t any decent takeaways by us so that helps to curb temptation LOL! I’ve never heard of Prolific but I might take a look.

Well done for keeping to your no-spend goal so far. That’s good advice about switching current accounts and taking advantage of the incentives to do so. That will be lovely to have your 60th celebrations overseas with your family and sounds like you are both enjoying making plans for it. #WotW

That sounds like a very successful no-spend week well done to you. I do Prolific too it’s a great way to earn some extra cash and I find the studies so interesting.
I suggest yellow for your lovely celebration it’s such a happy colour.
I hope you have another successful no-spend week.

Good luck on your no spending. I have to be careful now. I love Prolific, I have earned quite a lot from them too. Sometimes the surveys take forever but when you see the money add up you know it’s worth it. I also get quite a lot from Topcashback, but that requires spending. (I do get some on my necessary weekly online shopping though!) My son buys us a take out each week, usually when I do my treatment as I feel pretty crappy afterwards. I let him order on my laptop after I’ve clicked Topcashback. I didn’t realise we were so close in age, my 60th in November this year. I might even plan a party…but I don’t know many people. maybe I’ll just keep saving for my long awaited cruise. (which will not be until at least next year when I will feel happier leaving my kids behind!)
