Birthday is our Word of the Week

This post may contain affiliate links

Welcome to the summary of another week for us. We love taking part in this weekly linky where we share a word or phrase that sums up how our week has been.

This week we have chosen the word birthday because, for us, it was the highlight of our week. December 22 is always special. Not that we go out or party or get all extravagant. We don’t. Now that I’m thinking about it, we’ve never had a birthday party! Shocker, I know. For our 40th birthday, we had a lovely meal out at a restaurant with a few close friends and our family. We really enjoyed that. But hey, we organized it.

For our 50th we tried to do the same thing: organized a meal for a few of our friends to join us at a restaurant. And guess what? Apart from our family, no one showed up! To say we were embarrassed was an understatement! Anyway, it was a very bitterly cold winter time and it was also snowing. And if we had realized that it would be, we wouldn’t have organized it. Now that I think about it, I wouldn’t have gone out to a meal at a time like this too. So I don’t blame them. We prefer the sunnier and warm times too.

I don’t think it is something we would do again. Unless of course, we are in a lovely tropical surrounding. We will always stay home. I’d love a birthday cruise one day. I went to one for a friend in 2019 and it was special. We went from Florida to The Bahamas and I really enjoyed it. I suppose it won’t happen for us because Leisa isn’t a fan of boats, ships, cruises, etc. And it would be no fun to spend it without her.

Back to this week. Our birthday was on Wednesday and when I woke up very early in the morning for the loo, I noticed that the walls and door were covered with birthday banners. That was such a nice gesture. And we didn’t hear when they were putting them up!

Next, we got two lovely bunches of flowers delivered and we had fun chatting and arranging them in three vases which we put in the kitchen and living room. I had considered getting a bunch of flowers for Leisa but somehow I didn’t get around to doing it and I’m happy it turned out that way. I also thought that my son would arrange for flowers to be delivered too as he usually does. This year he didn’t and I’m happy about that too. He opted for gifts instead.

As we were born so close to Christmas, we have always saved any birthday gifts we get for Christmas. So when we open up our gifts it seems like we got a lot for Christmas, lol.

For our Youtube subscribers, we did a live show of thanksgiving on Wednesday night too. That was also nice as we had not been on a live show since the start of December due to Internet problems. Our ‘fans’ were happy to see us and it is fair to say that the feeling was mutual. One of our subscribers from the US even sent us some cash through Youtube! That created a buzz too and was highly appreciated.

We are thankful that we have life and health and strength, our family, and also an extended virtual family on the Internet. Since we were monetized on Youtube, we have got some revenue every single month and this month was special as it came on our birthday.

We didn’t have any birthday cake if you’re wondering as we still have the Christmas cake that we made and we also made a lovely Cranberry carrot cake that turned out beautifully. And guess what? The kids (young adults) haven’t been eating any of the cake. So you know how that goes!

Lots of emails came through on our birthday too. Most of them though were from companies and retailers offering us as birthday gifts, percentages off the listed price of goods and services. No thanks. We are too frugal to be caught by those gestures. I’ve bought Leisa a gift for her birthday which I can’t share yet. She has bought me gifts too but as you know, they will be opened on Christmas day and I am sure we will be pleasantly surprised at how we managed to pull this off since we spend so much time in each others company.

Ok, it’s time to say thanks so much for your support in 2021 and we hope to still be able to share with you again in 2022. Stay safe and all the best.

Belated Happy Birthday Lovely ladies xx
My birthday is late November and I used to work with 3 friends who had birthdays Christmas Day, January and early February. One year we decided that we were fed up of meeting up in the cold and planned a June Unbirthday for all of us, we had a lovely warm outing and shared gifts then instead. Unfortunately we only managed it one year. I only meet up with one of them now and we tend to leave it until January/February and go to the theatre or Ballet. (if all is well we are seeing Cinderella and Don Giovanni at the Hippodrome next year.)
I’m off to watch your video now, Merry Christmas x

Ohh Happy belated birthday to you’s. It sounds like you had a lovely day.
You have some really amazing fans on YouTube but it’s no wonder you are fab ladies.
My dad’s birthday is on the 23rd and he always used to get grumpy that people would just give him one gift for his birthday and Christmas. I always make a point of getting separate presents and making a fuss of him.
Merry Christmas. I hope you have a fab time x
