Cost Effective Home Renovations to try out

This post may contain affiliate links

We love renovating our home and adding little touches here and then to make it feel even more homely than it already does. Over the lockdown, we have constantly been looking for other areas that we can jazz up. To us, it is really important to keep maintaining our home throughout the year. Did you see our dining room makeover? Well, the bathroom and the kitchen take the cake!

We all know that owning and running a home is expensive. Every year, the average person spends thousands of pounds on upgrades, trying to make their interiors and exteriors more to their liking.

But do you always have to spend so much money on effective home renovations?

Well, the answer will probably surprise you. It turns out that spending a lot of money is not always necessary. It turns out that there are many ways you can improve how your home looks and feels, without emptying your hard-earned savings account! Think about what you can do yourself and more than half the expense is gone.

What we’ve done to this kitchen is to do a big declutter and then remove the cupboard doors, paint them in a different colour to what they were before and then put them back on. It would have cost us much more if we had hired contractors to do it.

Here’s what to do.

Think Ambiently

What the heck does “think ambiently” mean? Well, it’s actually just something we made up. But it means doing things to your home that improve the ambiance, rather than the structure or the material quality.

So, for instance, you can change the ambiance of a room by swapping out your old lightbulbs for new ones. You don’t have to fill the space with expensive objects – just a simple change in the nature of light flooding the room can make all the difference.

The same goes for smells. You can alter how your home feels by adding something as simple as a diffuser. The fragrance permeates every corner of your home, making you feel different, no matter where you are. Have a look at this short video for ideas to make your house smell amazing.

Add Artistic Showstoppers

Instead of filling your rooms with endless clutter, another strategy you can try is to add artistic showstoppers to every room.

What do we mean by this? Well, it’s very simple actually. Things like glass console tables are one-off purchases that can totally change how your spaces feel. Once you have a single show-stopper in place, arranging the remainder of the interior is surprisingly easy.

Paint The Exterior

Painting the exterior of your home might sound like a big job – and it can be. But it is also extremely cost-effective, hardly making a dent in your savings. What’s more, it can make your property feel brand new. Painting the exterior fundamentally changes how it feels to behold as you walk towards it, making you feel like the queen of your castle. And who doesn’t want that?

Tidy Up Your Garden

Tidying up your garden doesn’t actually have to cost anything at all. But it can make a big difference in how your home feels, especially now that spring and summer are on their way.

Grab a large bin liner and start clearing up all the junk. If you don’t have a composter yet, get one. That way, you can turn all your unwanted weeds and grass cuttings into fresh soil you can use to plant new flowers and beds.

Being able to fill your vases with fresh flowers from your garden must be a plus. You’ll definitely enjoy it.

Paint Your Window Frames

Do you have wooden window frames? If so, repainting them is an ultra-cheap way to makeover your home’s exteriors. And it’s super simple too. You just go to the store, buy a primer and a topcoat, and you’re ready to go. Just make sure that you have a secure ladder if you’re planning on fixing up first-floor windows. You don’t want to fall!

Recently I saw Youtubers Lone Fox and Macenna paint their window frames and the final results were stunning to add to their home renovations.

There are so many things that we can do! And we won’t stop as our home renovations make us feel better and we save money in the process.
