Five Ways to Improve the Look and Value of Your Home

This post may contain affiliate links

Leisa and I have been working on our wish list for what would make our homes better looking but also worth more. We are going to share the wish list with you and also our well-researched ideas for ways to improve the look and value of your home.

Read on if you have always admired lovely homes. And we are talking about homes that look lived in, not just showpieces. After updating your home, you must make sure to follow these tips to maintain it.

Update the front door

Have you noticed some really classy looking doors these days? I’ve seen them in various shades of grey mostly but also in white. We tend to prefer the look of the grey ones, especially if the window frames are matching in colour and style.

As a result, we have been researching these doors and they can be quite pricey. If you can afford it though, it is well worth the cost and hassle as it will not only make your home look better but also increase its value.

Your front door should also open up to an amazing look like lino flooring. There’s nothing better than the first impression. And that tends to last long.

Modernize your Staircase

For some time, we have been saying that our staircase could do with some work. No matter how often we paint it (we try to do it at least once a year)it soon turns to this drab yellowy colour.

We have started to look into UK sourced toughened glass for a classy and modern look. I’m sure this would make the hallway more light and airy and also add a wow factor that you can jazz up with plants.

Get a good landscape job done

Your home will stand out in the neighbourhood when it has a nicely manicured and well-kept lawn, evergreen shrubs, plants of different colours, and even a few planters with flowers appropriate for the season.

At Hall’s Garden centre, we are trying our luck with buying plants each season. If you follow our Instagram grid and stories you’ll see that we have been having mixed fortunes in this department.

This summer we focused on the back garden with getting it a good look with some cosy garden furniture and an upcycled table. These will no doubt add to the look of the property. Especially if you are staging your home for sale, it will show prospective buyers exactly what is possible within the space.

Let paint and wallpaper say it

Have you ever seen how much a new lick of paint can improve the look of a space? Mind you, if the surface of the wall is not perfect, no amount of paint can make it better. The same is true for wallpaper. Even though wallpaper can improve the look, you must ensure that the wall is smooth too.

Choose paper that will reflect the style you are going for. Don’t feel that you must cover all the walls in a room. Sometimes just a feature wall will do.

If there is a paint colour that you particularly love but you find it’s too expensive, places like Homebase will try their best to mix paint to come up with what you want. Don’t forget to have extra so that you can do your own touch up throughout the year.

Window treatments

When it comes to window treatments, here in the UK we are really spoilt for an affordable choice. You can choose net curtains, blinds, lined drapes and even pattern tinted windows.

Don’t you agree that having ugly sagging curtains at a window makes the place look cheap? We especially hate to see curtains that are meant to be white but which are nowhere near that.

The first impression is crucial so since windows (especially at the front) are one of the first things that people see when they approach or view your house, make sure that the windows are clean and that they are efficiently and effectively dressed from the inside.

What would you add to this list of ideas for ways to improve the look and value of your home? Do let us know in the comment section below and also let us know of any home improvements you are currently doing or thinking of having done.

Hi, Great Article ! Thanks for share this.

Thanks for pointing out that I need to make sure that I invest in smart locks and the right doors for the security of my home.
Current home security frameworks are likewise advancing. Brilliant locks on entryways and windows permit clients to protect their property with their voice, and applications permit clients to lock their property and secure their windows distantly, in the occasion they neglected to secure prior to leaving the home. Past this, shrewd cautions are additionally ready to send alarms to cell phones, and numerous doorbells presently accompany the ability of sending a video feed to your portable, permitting you to get bundles and talk straightforwardly to guests without being at home.
