Sometimes we ask Alexa for the seven-day weather forecast on the weekend so we can plan our week ahead, and decide when to go where (if we have to) and it also helps us to set the mood for the week ahead. Well, only one word could sum up the kind of week she described in terms of the weather for the next 7 days. The word is gloomy. Wednesday was even forecasted to be snowy, but when we checked again, she seemed to have changed her mind. That didn’t help with our mood though. It was wet and ‘yukky’.
A friend invited us to dinner on Sunday so we didn’t have to cook. It felt strange as we do cook quite a bit on a Sunday to either share with others or to refrigerate for later in the week. Well, someone must have been having an event in our cul de sac so it was almost impossible to take the car out and would have been difficult to get it back in too if the event didn’t finish by the time we got home. As a result, we ordered an Uber and enjoyed the 5-minute ride there and another ride back. That cost us a total of £10 (no spend? lol).
It was a very cold day and it was also raining on and off. Once we got into our friend’s house though, we were more relaxed. We listened to some good gospel music including WHEN JESUS SAYS YES, NOBODY CAN SAY NO by Michelle Williams and Beyonce, etc. That was enough to get us out of the foul and gloomy mood the weather had put us in. We enjoyed each other’s company too, and the food was particularly delicious. It was the first in a long time that we were eating Sunday dinner at someone else’s house.
The music was lively and put us in a dancing mood.
It was all delicious but my favourites were the dauphinoise potatoes and the red cole slaw. It’s been years since we had potatoes like that. We are not usually potato fans but this was good.
We can’t shake the gloomy feeling this week. What made it even worse is that the bin men didn’t collect the bins of recycling last week so the cul de sac is a mess with all the papers and cardboard being blown around, then the rain and stray cats etc have had their go at them. The place looks dreadful and no one will want to clean it up. The last time we went out to clean up the mess, only one other neighbour came out. We got bad news about two weeks ago that she is very poorly. She went away in an ambulance and hasn’t returned. Her family doesn’t think that she will. Sad.
I don’t know when the bin men will be back for recycling so this week we have no choice but to put them in with the regular rubbish. I heard through the grapevine that they are on strike!
This is how gloomy it looked one morning at almost eight-thirty! Perfect to be in bed all day and then soup for lunch, lol.
It was so bad (in terms of affecting our mood) that we didn’t even have our live sessions on YouTube for most of the week. We opted instead to hop into bed early and watch TV instead.
One day we even sat and worked out what we would need to do to live somewhere warm for 6 months of the year and then come back to the UK during its best months weatherwise. I wish we could work remotely! At the moment we wouldn’t have a problem with a place to stay as there is the family home that is already paid for. We would only need to pay the basic utility bills and buy food. Oh, we would need a car too, lol. Then we realised we would need a whole lot of money if we were to go live in Jamaica. Back to our gloomy state, lol.
Hope you all had a good week and join us as we hunt down Spring and warmer, brighter weather. Anne has done a fab job in keeping us together in this Linky so we can have a sneak peek into how we all spend our days. Thanks, Anne. I look forward each week to seeing how others spend their days.
I am in South Africa so we are dreaming of gloomy days! I am over the heat now.
Oh, we each want what the other has! lol
The gloomy weather can really affect your mood, there are little of signs of spring though if you look for them.
The Sunday dinner your friend cooked looks delicious, how nice of them to make that for you.
We had bin strikes last year and it was awful, hopefully, it was just a missed collection for you.
I hope you both have a lovely weekend.
This week has been a gloomy one! I am so sick of the grey skies and rain.
How lovely to have have dinner with your friend on Sunday. The meal does look so good.
That is frustrating that your bins weren’t emptied and so sad about your neighbour.
I hope your mood lifts soon and the weather improves too!! x

The weather this week has been so gloomy and dull – it’s nearly Spring where’s the sunshine! it’s getting on my nerves now LOL! I saw that the bin men were on strike, I hope they resolve it soon and get back to collecting the rubbish. That is sad news about your neighbour. Living somewhere warm for six months of the year is very appealing!
We had a little snow but it wasn’t enough to settle and I wouldn’t have noticed had I not been in the car. I live in a close too and I know what you mean when someone has an event, you can’t move for cars. My neighbours have events nearly every week during the summer. I’m glad you’ve had some joyful moments in your gloomy week. Fingers crossed for more joy to come, even if it’s not in Jamaica. (If you can’t spend the whole winter there at least you can plan for a holiday!)

Gloomy is a good word to describe the weather we often have at this time of year. How lovely to go to your friend’s for dinner and a Uber sounds like a good plan given how busy it was in your cul-de-sac. So sorry to hear about your neighbour. Hope your bins got collected this week. Going somewhere warmer for the winter is a lovely idea – shame it isn’t so doable though! #WotW
