I am praying for you! Yeah. I know you might not believe me but trust me, I am.
Perhaps you are thinking that I don’t even know you so I could not be praying for you….but I am!
In Jamaica where I grew up, if you are seen dressed going to church it is customary for a passer-by to say: ‘please pray for me’. To be honest, sometimes you forget all about this stranger who asked you to pray. In fact you might encounter the stranger again on returning from church and they might ask ‘did you remember to pray for me?’ Sometimes one might lie and respond in the affirmative. But let’s say you did remember to pray, what do you pray for? That’s a dilemma! You could perhaps pray about any extra baggage they are carrying.
I think if a stranger can exhibit that little bit of faith in asking you to pray for them then you must meet them half way. Another dilemma though is remembering to pray for this stranger. I’ve discovered the answer to both dilemmas!
First of all, if you make it a habit to always pray for all of God’s children then you have half the battle won. So every time you pray, whether or not it is at church, just remember to pray for all of mankind then that will include everyone! Secondly when it comes to the matter of what to pray for, what do you do?
I use two things as a guide. One is from the Bible in Luke 12 v 7, which basically says God knows us so intimately that He knows every single hair on our heads and that we are worth much more than sparrows. Can you imagine that? Have you any idea how many strands of hair you have? No? Well God knows.
The second thing I use is something I use to guide me whenever I pray anyway. I ask that in everything God’s will is done. So God knows this ‘stranger’ enough to know where he/she needs to be blessed.
So from now on try my two suggestions. In your prayers, practice praying for all mankind and when you pray trust God to let His will be done especially since He knows us so intimately and knows where we need to be blessed most. Just try it and by the way, I’m praying for you!
Peace.
