The word that best sums up our week this week, is really camera. There’s been a lot of action this week, but if we use ACTION as the title, then you’ll be tempted to think that we did a lot physical work, lol. We didn’t really, but still it was an action-packed week and they all have something to do with the camera. And what about LIVE? Well, read on and see.
Podcast action
Last week Friday morning as we were sorting through emails, we came upon another one inviting us to take part in a podcast. For some reason we are always nervous about this and feeling that we aren’t competent enough. What if our accent is too off? What if they can’t understand us? What if we forget our train of thought? All sorts of negative and limiting thoughts came through.
Then I realised that the person who emailed has their website and podcast link as well as their mobile phone number attached to the email. I gave him a call after chatting with Leisa and also checking out the website.
The long story short is that we had a lovely chat and he put us at ease and by Monday Morning this week we recorded our section of the podcast over a live Zoom call. Talking about LIVE CAMERA ACTION!
The episode is about partners (a savings system used in the Caribbean) and we have written several pieces for blogs and magazines about this in the past. It won’t air until next year but we are so glad we got involved and got our first podcast experience.
Camera
On Tuesday morning we went to Argos to try to return a Canon camera which we bought for almost £600 in March this year. For some reason it has been acting up and sometimes comes up with a ‘busy’ message or just does not record what we filmed. It’s been a little frustrating to say the least.
Well, Argos put us on to Canon who talked us through on the phone how to reset the camera. We tried it for a few minutes after that and it seemed to work. By the time Wednesday came however we were back to the old faulty ways and frustration kicked in again. We called Canon again and they’ve said we should opt to take it to Argos for a replacement or send it back to Canon for repairs. Well, we rely on the camera daily now so I think that we will go back to Argos this morning with the reference number we got from Canon for the replacement.
Camera 2
I told you the word CAMERA could be used to sum up our week! Our DJI OSMO pocket camera has helped us out a lot this week. It is so small and handy and most times people don’t even realise that we are filming when we are using it. We love the face tracking element too so it is quite handy for vlogging.
The problem we had with it is that I was using the app (MIMO) to transfer the files from the camera to my phone and then to my Macbook. That was totally filling up my phone storage until I reached out to a friend and they told me I could just put the card from the camera into a card reader and plug it straight to my computer to get the footage off!
What a relief that was! And we also felt slightly silly for not figuring that out earlier as we already have everything we needed for it.
Live Cooking
I’m almost sure we told you last week that instead of doing our Wednesday Day Date series on our YouTube channel we will be doing some LIVE cooking with our subscribers at home!
Well this week Wednesday we had the first episode and although we were a bit nervous setting it up, ot turned out to be so fun and entertaining. It was a massive success and we will carry on with a live cooking show every Wednesday at 6pm (UK time). Our subscribers get to vote on Mondays and Tuesdays for what we should cook on Wednesday.
Here’s how the first Live cooking went. Hope you enjoy it and can be with us live one day.
We are monetised!
All this camera action stuff is really paying off too! Last Saturday we we notified that we had now met all the requirements for being monetised on Youtube! As we had already had an Adsense account, we quickly filled out the rest of the application and we are pleased to say that as of this week Monday we are monetised. We will now have ads on our videos and can have Superchats and stickers etc. We haven’t figured out all of it yet, but we are excited about the prospects of being able to be monetised as two old women, lol.
Thanks to Anne for allowing us to share how our week has been and we hope that one day our readers will share too. Do you think that LIVE CAMERA ACTION sums up our week well? Hope so.

I hope you get your camera sorted today ladies. I watched some of your video, not live I’m afraid. It’s lovely to see how much interaction you have. The cooking show is a great replacement for the Wednesday Date….and you don’t have to go anywhere yay! Well done on building your channel and so quickly. Thanks for joining in with Word of the Week. Lots of Live Camera action for sure.

What an exciting week!
The podcast sounds like a wonderful opportunity and experience.
I hope you have got a replacement camera. What a faff. I wouldn’t have thought of taking the card of of the camera and put it straight into the computer.
Congrats on getting monetised! That is a fantastic achievement. x

Glad your first podcast experience went well. I’ve done a couple of podcast interviews and they’re an interesting experience. How frustrating that you’ve had lots of problems with your camera. Hope that you managed to get it replaced. Glad your first live cooking show went well – it sounds like a lot of fun. #WotW
