My kitchen makeover, thanks to plastic

This post may contain affiliate links

I’ve been working on a number of DIY projects over the summer and needed some plastic to give my kitchen a makeover. It had to be a special kind of plastic that would stand up to wear and tear AND easy to clean! I had no idea where to get it from, although I had seen so many beautiful pictures in DIY and home makeover magazines. I searched high and low and asked friends who had that crisp, shiny splash back in their kitchen.  They had no idea where it came from except that the contractor bought and installed it!
I finally asked the builder I had used a few years ago where I could source these versatile plastic sheets that you can use for shed windows, doll house windows, kitchen splashbacks etc. He said he could only find companies that sold the required plastic in large quantities and were not willing to cut to the size needed but that he would ask around for me! Oh bother!
Well imagine my sheer delight when I started searching the big world wide web and came across this company. They are a God send!
They stock a wide range of plastics including clear Perspex sheets, clear Perspex sheets, and sheets of Perspex Plastic materials (my sister used that for the roof of her back porch). They offer a quick turnaround time for all plastic cutting and they cut to your precise specification. Amazing! They will even cut acrylic to the required size!  Simplyplastics even do custom plastic fabrication.
I needed a unique plastic fabrication done for my project. I was able to give them the dimensions and a rough design and was more than pleased with the results I got.
Here are some pics I used as inspiration to get the look I wanted.
This is one of the kitchen designs I found on the web that inspired me. Crisp and clean look that's also easy to keep clean

Although I was happy with my tiled kitchen walls and back splash for years, I wasn’t happy with the cleaning schedule to maintain it! Just too many grooves with the possibility for food particles, grease and grime to get in. Plus I wanted a more modern look. So many of my friends have been asking about the design and materials I use.
Tiles are going out of style on kitchen walls now. You need a crisp clean look that is easy to clean and easy to source from versatile, sturdy plastic.
Can you see the problem I had with wall tiles? Not so easy to maintain.
So if you are after specially fabricated plastics, plastics for craft, DIY, futuristic furniture design and making, contemporary splash backs for kitchens, bathrooms or utility rooms, water features, simplyplastics is the way to go. They are super helpful and very efficient.
As soon as Parminder (my contractor) is finished with the final touches to my kitchen, I will do the big reveal so keep checking back! (Such a teaser, me). I will put an update on this post as well as do a new one with all the pics.
PS if you got my newsletter in the summer you would have seen pics of my complete back garden makeover. If you missed it and would like to see, send me a message in the comments and I will get it out to you. I’ll share with you all the tips I used to make sure it was a frugally beneficial project. Talk soon,
Jo and Leisa
xoxo

I have been thinking of renovating my kitchen for months now, and perhaps I could incorporate the fabricated plastics that you’ve mentioned.

I’m DYI’s a big fan. The best suggestion when it comes to renovating the kitchen is to use this type of plastic. Perhaps this could save some of the makeovers for the kitchen.

This is really great. It is important to have good quality products for your house too. Specially about tiles as they need to take a beating.

When redesigning a kitchen, put function first, says interior designer Jacqui Hargrove. “There’s no ideal kitchen shape,” she says. “Whether it’s a galley or U- or L-shaped, plan for the sink, fridge and cooktop to form a triangle, with no more than 6 feet between each for ease of movement.”

Floor tiles are easy to maintain, from simple cleaning to optional sealing over time. Beside basic routine cleaning, there is no special maintenance involved.
