Our Word of the Week is Progress

This post may contain affiliate links

I can’t remember if we have used this word recently to sum up what our week is like. Can you? The word progress is quite fitting though. I think I can safely say that in almost all areas of our work and endeavours this week, we have been able to make even marginal progress. The bit I am most pleased about is the progress we have made with getting the wallpaper off the walls in the two rooms that we are trying to renovate ourselves. We are so grateful to those of you who gave us your helpful suggestions in the chat. It’s been so much easier to spray the paper with warm water and then peel it off. We have most of it done now so next week we will focus on sanding and painting.

We took a trip to several stores this week to get what we need for making progress with the job next week. Our trip to Wickes helped us to secure paint and primer, paint brushes and rollers as well as frog tape. Sometimes I can’t believe that we are taking on this challenge ourselves! Honestly, it sometimes feels like a dream. But we watch so many female YouTubers do it so we know it is possible. And if we make mistakes, we can easily learn and perfect things for the next time. I am sure nothing will go horribly wrong.

The jobs we don’t like involve climbing up. I’ve said I won’t do any of that, so it’s left to Leisa. Or if one of the girls pop by from University and want to give us a hand, that would be most welcome.

On this week’s LIVE cooking on Youtube, we challenged ourselves to make stovetop Jamaican jerk chicken and festivals in less than one hour. Well, we exceeded ourselves and got it done in about 30 minutes. The star of the show was this griddle pan that we heard about. We tried it and are now hooked. We think jerk chicken will feature more often in our weekly meal plans now. Normally, we’d have to wait until the summer to actually make jerk chicken outside on the grill. So we are happy to have found a way around it. We are also happy to report that we had no LIVE disaster this week, 😆

So it can be done! It was a lively affair and the chicken was quite spicy and nice. It also had the usual marks from the pan and the smoky flavour was undeniable. We have a recipe for Jerk marinade if you are interested to try jerk chicken yourself. Feel free to ask us anything about this too.

University progress

As you may or may not know, our three children are away at university this year. This week, we got good catchup with our boy (22 years old, lol) about the options that he is considering re jobs and long term career etc. I like that he is not just wanting to choose things that others want to do, but he wants to choose what he is comfortable with and what will keep him motivated. His choice at the moment will also allow him to travel, which is something I know he enjoys too. Fingers crossed he will have another good year of making progress towards his dreams. Of course I gave him my full commitment to support him in any way I can. He is even thinking of doing a doctorate eventually, which I am quite chuffed about! Watch this space, lol.

The girls are also settled too and are enjoying the university courses they’ve chosen.

Over to you. Let us know how your week has been. What are the highlights and how would you sum it up?

So glad you are making progress ladies, and well done to your children, it sounds like they are doing well. Good luck with the rest of the decorating. I love jerk chicken so I’ll have to check out your recipe. I used to make it from scratch many years ago but lately we just rely on a ready made sauce.

I always lose track of what words I use and every week I have to go back & check that I’ve not used the same one recently.
Well done with all of the progress. Good on you talking on the challenge of decorating yourselves. You’ll be so chuffed with your selves when you’re finished.
I am glad you had a catch up with your son. It sounds like he has some great plans. x
