Tips for Breaking Unhealthy Eating Habits

This post may contain affiliate links

If you want to stay healthy and improve your diet, it’s so important that you use these tips for breaking unhealthy eating habits. It may be that you snack a lot between meals or you avoid breakfast which leads to overeating later in the day.

Especially during this period of lockdown, it is particularly hard, but still doable.

breaking unhealthy eating habits

When you learn to break those habits and form a healthier relationship with food, you will find it a lot easier to maintain weight loss in the long term. These are some of the best ways to break your bad eating habits.

foods which are hard to resist for some when trying to resist unhealthy eating.

Be More Conscious About Food

A lot of people don’t think that much about what they are eating, but if you want to improve your relationship with food, you should consider every ingredient. For example, do you ever think about where your food comes from and the processes involved in making and transporting it? Many people don’t and that leads to eating a lot of processed foods that are packed full of salt, sugar, and additives. But if you start paying attention to where your food comes from, and maybe even consider a vegan diet, you will find that you are eating more fresh food and avoiding processed junk food. Being more conscious about food often means that you will pay more for quality ingredients and put more effort into cooking, so you will usually eat smaller portions of healthier food instead of loading up on processed food.

Try Hypnosis

Many people are afraid of hypnosis and they may be skeptical about whether it works or not. However, hypnosis is perfectly safe and it can be very effective in helping you to change your habits. You can get some great hypnosis downloads that you can listen to at home on your own. A lot of people find that this is a very effective way to change their relationship with food and get long term weight loss results.

Keep A Food Diary

We don’t always realize that we have bad eating habits and a lot of people find that they are struggling to lose weight, even though they think that they are eating well. If you find yourself in this position, why not start a food diary? Write down everything that you eat and the times that you eat at. When you look back over it you may realize that you are snacking a lot more than you thought that you were. You may also find that you snack at certain times of day, perhaps when you are stressed. By keeping a food diary, you can start to work out what the driving factors behind your bad eating habits are, and that makes it a lot easier to change them.

Improve Your Sleep Pattern

Lack of sleep has been linked to weight gain because when you do not get your 8 hours, you are more likely to overeat. If you are trying to improve your relationship with food, you should first try to improve your sleep pattern. It’s important that you avoid eating before you go to bed as well because this can disrupt your sleep.

Find things to occupy your time

These are things you can do when you feel the hunger pangs and you know you should not be hungry

  • drink some water
  • phone a friend
  • read
  • watch tv (not food-related, lol)
  • do some craft
  • reorganise your photos, books or even a room.
  • do a facial
  • relax in the bath
  • do yourself a manicure or pedicure
  • try on the clothes you are longing to wear when you lose some weight
  • plan with a friend how you are going to get through this together.

Here’s a fun workout video to help you too.
