Welcome back to the blog where we join Anne in sharing our word of the week each Friday. We usually use it as a way to look back at what has happened over the week and to count our lucky stars for all the blessings we have had. Last week was such a week of bliss. This week was not so much bliss. We would use disappointment as the word to sum things up. Oh, how different things can be in the space of a week.
We got the first glimpse when we got out of the car and saw the flower beds and pots in the front garden. They were absolutely scorched and wilted. We had decided to do shades of yellow petunias this year and they were beautiful in both the front and back garden. When we returned home, things were brown and crispy! You can just imagine our disappointment.
Sure we had a really good time away and yes, we would definitely do it again. While we were away, we remembered that there was actually a heat wave in Birmingham so we asked the girls to give the plants some water. Both girls said they did, but we assume that the plants had already suffered by then.
The disappointment didn’t stop there! Inside the house the plants also looked like they had seen better days! The creeping pathos that I had bought online was doing so well that we had separated it into two. We had also decided to keep them in water as that is what we were used to back home in Jamaica. Well, one of them had three perfectly yellow leaves that looked like ripe bananas. Thankfully the other one mananged to stay ok. By the way, they both had enough water in, but still were affected by the heat.
We have since started working to try to salvage what we can and we have resolved that some things will have to stay until Spring time. We usually don’t do much in the garden at this time of the year anyway. If you have suggestions for what will add some colour and only need some watering now, do send them our way. In preparation, we have deadheaded a lot of things and cut out most of the wild flowers at the back.
A few of the plants seem to have loved the heat and are doing well. This includes a little piece of a shrub that we brought back from Jamaica. I guess it’s mot all disappointment but we have quite a bit to do if we want to have a pretty garden again.
Leisa is now considering painting the fence at the back so that will give us a fresh start when we are ready to go in the garden again. We will see about that.
I also had my checkup at the doctors today and I am wondering if their scale is working! According to them, I weigh the exact same amount as I did a few months ago. Not an ounce more or less! That was a disappointment! But then, it could be worse as it could be that I weigh considerably more, considering the fun we had last week. Although, saying that, we only had one takeaway last week which was chicken and chips. I did have a lot of the chips and not much chicken as it was too plain and bland for my liking.
As I am writing this I am thinking about the disappointment being faced by some students as they receive their ALevel results this week. I’m happy for the ones who worked hard and achieved well. I also think that whatever happens, it will all work out for the majority in the end.
Over to you. How was your week this week? What word would you use to summarise things? We hope you had a great week and have a good weekend too.

Oh dear, dissappointment is not good, such a shame after a lovely week before. Our front garden is the same, scorched and the flowers in the flowerbeds are well and truly gone. My back garden has thankfully came back to life after the rain we’ve had.
That is strange that you weigh exactly the same as last time. It’s not a bad thing though, like you said it could have been worse.
Have a great weekend. x

So sorry that it was a disappointing week. Our plants have suffered with the heatwave and lack of rain too. Glad some of yours are at least doing well even though others have suffered from too much heat and too little rain. Good luck with planning things to make your garden pretty again in the spring. #Wotw
