Word of the Week – Getting Things Done

This post may contain affiliate links

This week, our words of the week are: Getting Things Done.

We still are intending to sort things out for the new kitchen installation. We have continued to look at kitchen ideas and shops and getting quotes for said kitchen. Now, one workman I would ideally like to do the kitchen has said, he will be in touch this week and so far he has not kept to his word. He is really expensive I think but he is also very thorough and neat. He does not smoke or drink  alcohol and we get along. I know for most of the year he is very busy and I’m sure he would rather work on big jobs than on small ones like ours. So I get it.

We made another visit to Wren Kitchen to get the finished plan and final quote from the designer who had come to visit last week. Well get this. At home, he had quoted us a little over 11, 000, however when we visited him in store to get the final quote, the total came to over 13,000 even though we had asked him to remove the expensive Neff oven, an induction hob and a few other items! I do not understand them at all! They claim to have a no interest finance plan that we could take up for 10 years. No thanks mate!

A funny thing happened there though! To justify their costs, one of the arguments the designer threw at us was that they are not like “Kitchen Magic’ that just come in and changed cupboard doors! Well, I had never heard of that company before and that concept sounded quite interesting because to be fair, there is really nothing wrong with our kitchen. We would just like an upgraded look for the sake of it. So when we got back home, we tried looking that company up online and contacting them. By the next day, a very friendly gentleman came from that company to give us a quote. Again, they were not providing any equipment at all, not even a kitchen sink or even cupboard handles! Their quote was also a little over £11.000. So no mate.

Our options now? We will see if we are contacted by that first gentleman, and we have also asked another gentleman for a quote. He should be here on Sunday. We will certainly let you know. We might just have to paint cupboards again if we want a kitchen refresh.

In order of getting things done, we have started sorting the junk that was in the conservatory. A lot has gone into the new shed. The laundry room is up and running with the new washer and dryer working really hard. This has brought forward a new problem of humidity caused by the steam from the dryer. We have had to purchase a large dehumidifier to try to deal with the problem.

The garden itself was also looking like a tip, and since we are wishing Spring would hurry up, we decided to clear it of all the rubbish that was there. We thought of hiring a skip but then the thought of having to move the rubbish to the skip ourselves in the freezing cold was not appealing so we hired some men who did a very good job. The garden now looks as good as it can in this weather. It was delightful too to see the bulbs we planted in early Autumn coming up. That was hard work then but the reward will be to see the beautiful flowers in Spring!

We are loving the little patio area of the shed space! We think it lends itself to jujjing up so we are planning to do that when the weather is nicer. Some of the tulips and daffodils in pots should look really nice there and we have started to look too for outdoor rugs. Watch this space.

Today’s cute pic is Sunday’s dinner which was yummy and set us up well for the week of getting things done.

This week too, we tried our hand at using AI tools for our videos! We don’t want to be left behind – by technology so we are trying to keep up. So far we have tested it in 2 videos, which are not published yet but you must check back to see when they are. Personally, we love it, and to be fair, it is not really difficult.

The conservatory is finally cleared and usable except for a few bit like lawn chairs etc, but the shed is full! We are determined to keep things need and everything in its place. It’s so easy to just open the door and chuck things in there. But then it’s hard to find things when you really need them.

Thanks to Anne for allowing us to share in the linky and we hope that you have had a good and productive week.

Good luck with finding someone to do your kitchen. How strange that the second quote at Wren was higher despite several items being taken off. I’d have said no too after that. Sounds like you’ve had a very productive week. How lovely that the garden has been cleared and is looking nice ready for Spring. Your Sunday dinner looks delicious. I feel hungry just looking at the photo! #WotW

That is a shame the workman hasn’t been in touch and the kitchen from Wren seems so expensive! I much prefer the sound of Kitchen Magic but it’s a shame they were so expensive too. I hope you get something sorted. We have been thinking about doing something with our kitchen but it’s such a big job and expense. I am thinking about just painting the units. lol
I was in my garden today and thought it looked awful. I want the weather to be a bit warmer so I can get out there and do some tidying and digging.
    Have a great weekend. x

Keep on shopping around with your kitchen renovation. If your cupboards don’t need replacing you might want to consider wrapping? I’m not sure how expensive that would be but I think it can look good. You sound like very busy ladies getting things done.
