This week and in the weeks to come, I will have to adjust to some changes in my life. Well, our lives. They are all doable, I think. Who was able to adjust to the changing of the clocks on Sunday? We just told ourselves not to rush it but to take it slow and easy and get up when we felt we had had enough sleep. That worked fine! If only we could adjust to other changes as easily.
Anyway, the change in the time to longer daylight hours has made us feel chirpy and cheery. We just much prefer these days. There’s just such a boost to our moods and we can get more done. With it being Mother’s Day, too, dinner was made early as we had planned to go window shopping later. I made baked chicken, spicy rice and lots of steamed veggies. Later on, we went window shopping and had a look in The Range and Dunelm. Leisa wanted to buy something as a birthday present and she got them (can’t tell her what it is, yet). I bought nothing, lol as I am still trying my hardest to save.
Leisa got her Mother’s Day flowers and gifts on Saturday, and mine came after we had gone window shopping and came back in the late afternoon on Sunday They were delivered to the wrong address! The neighbours were nice and brought them over to us when we returned. Who likes the smell of lilies? We don’t. It reminds us of death as when my son died in 2012, a lot of flowers were sent to us and for some reason the smell of lilies took over. No wonder I hear that cats don’t like lilies. So we usually remove the lilies from the bouquets once they open. We place them at strategic points in the back garden in the hope that it will deter the cats who use it as the toilet.
On Monday, I worked the early shift (it started at 6:15 AM), and that is another thing I also had to adjust to. I agreed to the early shift as I needed to go to the High Street to conduct some business in the afternoon. It felt so good to be out in the sunshine and walking about feeling the breeze and enjoying the sunshine. When I finished work at 2:30, I couldn’t wait to get outside. Just before I left home, however, I got a delivery. My same friend who sent me flowers last week, sent me a very handy book which I assume she ordered on Amazon. It seems like Amazon sells everything!
I appreciate the gesture so much as the book doesn’t just have recipes but also has very useful information about hyperkalemia, and do’s and dont’s. I have read up on all of the information so far so that I can adjust my cooking, grocery shopping, and taste. I haven’t had the full diagnosis yet but based on the information I got last week, only a miracle can spare me, lol.
One of the most useful bits of information I have read in the book so far is that even foods that have low potassium levels need to be eaten in moderation, or else it’s defeating the purpose. In other words, a low potassium food can become high potassium if too much is consumed.
Then on Wednesday morning, it was time for the dreaded blood test to be done again. I left out early as I wanted to avoid traffic. It was way too early, and the facility hadn’t even opened yet when I got there. I had to wait in an Asian operated cornershop shop until it was almost time for the appointment. Luckily, it only took one try on my cold arm to get the sample for the test. Hopefully, I should have the result.
In the afternoon, I called the helpful nurse again, and she confirmed that the result hadn’t come back yet (what was I thinking?). Anyway, she said if the levels were dangerously high, I would get a call from the lab itself to seek medical attention right away! Sounds scary, right?
I noticed that this week’s nights have been so cold, but the days are, thankfully, lovely and glorious. On Thursday morning I awoke at just after 3 AM as the birds had decided it was time for us all to rise and shine. I couldn’t fall back asleep after tossing and turning for hours. So, just before 6 AM, I got up to check my NS&I account, only to find that I had won £100. I have decided to adjust how I deal with my winnings. Instead of seeing it as a bonus, I’ve set it to go right back into buying more bonds and hopefully winning more cash in the coming months.
When I rang up the surgery on Thursday afternoon to check if the results had come, the receptionist said they hadn’t but assured me that if anything was urgent, the lab would call me or call them to contact me. Fingers crossed that no news is good news.
I just want to say thanks to Anne and the other lovely ladies and gentlemen who left lovely comments on my post last week about my suspected hyperkalemia diagnosis. If I die suddenly due to this condition, I will leave something nice for each of you in my will, lol.
BTW, I am publishing this post now (Friday morning) and I have not heard anything yet re my blood results. I will post an update under this if I hear anything back.
!!!!Update!!!!!
It’s Friday afternoon. I called the doctors at about 4:30, just after I finished work. They said they just got the results back with a note on it that says ” RESULTS: NORMAL. NO FURTHER ACTION NECESSARY!”
So I just had a little cry of relief and also had an orange (I hadn’t had one in over a week), and also a handful of pistachios (one of my favourite nuts). Thanks for the fingers that were crossed for me and also for the prayers.
I don’t know what happened, but I am over the moon! I thought Leisa and I have the same diet, so something must be wrong somewhere! But I can adjust to the good news!

Keeping my fingers tightly crossed for you it is very scary being diagnosed with something that is life changing but with knowledge you can be proactive about it and it sounds like you are already doing that.
I think that lilies are actually poisonous to cats and dogs, I don’t buy them for that reason.
Well done on your win, reinvesting is a great idea.

I did pretty well adjusting to the time change, I took it better this year compared to previous years. It sounds like you had a lovely mother’s day, the flowers are beautiful!
The early shift sounds great when you finish work early too.
That was such a thoughtful gift from your friend, I hope the book helps.
I am glad the blood test went well and thank goodness the result came back normal. What a worry you have had!
Well done with the Premium Bond win, my dad had a win too but only £25. x

I’m so glad your blood tests were normal. I’m still waiting on my daughter’s results. They don’t seem to know what’s going on with her, she will be fitted with a holter monitor to record her heart over 24 hours. (Last night I sat with her for an hour as her hb was 195-210 for over 1/2 hour. I was giving her another 10 minutes before calling an ambulance. (She really, really doesn’t want to go back to hospital)
I’m with you on Lilys, they are beautiful but they do remind me of funeral flowers. And the pollen is actually dangerous for cats. Whenever anyone buys me Lilys the first thing I do is remove the pollen.
I had trouble adjusting to the time change, and I thought all these years it was the kids fault…it didn’t seem to bother them, although the youngest went to bed late on Sunday evening. (and I did too) By Monday we were used to it.

It is nice to have the lighter evenings back again isn’t it? Your Mother’s Day flowers are beautiful. I don’t mind lilies but I prefer other flowers. That’s an interesting idea to leave them around the back garden to deter visiting cats. How lovely of your friend to send you the Low Potassium Diet cookbook. That’s amazing news though that your blood tests have come back normal – what a huge relief for you. Well done on winning £100 on your NS&I account. #WotW
I’m so happy your results were normal, that must be a load off your mind 🙂 I like the light evenings. Normally time changes don’t go down too well in my house but this time it’s not been too bad.
