All About the Commonwealth Games This Week

This post may contain affiliate links

You would find it hard to think of a way to sum up this week without thinking about, including the commonwealth games. That’s been our experience anyway. From the opening ceremony last week to all the highlights of this week, it has just been fabulous. Our favourite events have included track and field events but we have also been watching a little of swimming and diving. Last week I had a good time on the day of the opening ceremony because I went by the stadium to check out what was happening and I got to meet and chat with some of the volunteers, coaches, and others involved in the games.

This week I actually got tickets and went to see the activities of Day 5. I did have a little bit of a disaster which I put together in a ten-minute video. I went with so much hope and expectation too! It was so much fun and I really must applaud the organising team because I think they have done a brilliant job.

We spent all of this week relaxed and watching the games. And guess what? This week was also the under 20 world athletic games in Columbia. We also go to see that each day too because when the events at the Alexander stadium break for the afternoon, it’s the perfect time to switch over to the feed from Columbia.

You would think I am well into athletics, lol. I’ve never been good at it but as a family, we just love to watch it. My son was well into it as a sprint athlete right up to when he went off to university. So we have been used to going to the Alexander stadium and other ones across the country for years now! Some of these British athletes were within our sights as we traveled all over the country. It’s so nice to see them all grown up now and at the top of their game.

Even though the weather has been perfect this week, sadly, most of my time has been spent indoors glued to the telly. I have been promising the petunias every day that I will be out soon to do some deadheading and I still haven’t been out. I think I only watered the garden one day this week.

This was Day 5 of the games, before the crowds flooded in. The stadium holds over 30,000 spectators BTW.

Well, you know what else happens when you just sit around and eat, don’t you? So yes, I can feel the wait going on as the only day I got some walking in was the day I went to the athletics. Never mind, we are away on holiday next week so we are hoping to get back to a daily walk and maybe twice on some days to make up for the sitting around this week.

My highlights for the week, apart from seeing so many Jamaican athletes dominate, include seeing Adam Gimelli, Laura Muir, and the young lady (can’t remember her name) who won the first medal for Wales. Not to mention the 10,000m runner who followed in her mother’s footsteps and won gold for her efforts. It was so dramatic and tantalizing to watch!

Well, I hope you had a good week and got to see some of the events of the Commonwealth Games too.

One day we hope the games would go to Jamaica.

July has been amazing!

Oh wow! How cool that you got to see some of the Commonwealth games in person and not just on the TV. It sounds like you had a great time. I am not a sporty person but I do love to watch it on the TV. x

I have to confess that I didn’t see any of the Commonwealth Games but how lovely that you went to see some of the events. It’s such an amazing experience seeing something like that in person. #WotW

We watched quite a lot from our caravan in Devon! I still haven’t seen the Bull, we were in the City on Tuesday but didn’t have time. I did see the huge stadium that that have built at Birmingham university, I don’t know if they will be keeping it. The closing ceremony was amazing but we watched it at home. My eldest daughter really wanted to go but it was the day we got back off holiday so we settled for watching it on television. I’ve only been to Alexander Stadium once. I’m glad you got to watch from there.
