It is funny, well I think so at least, that we have chosen to use chuffed as our word of the week. I say it is funny because prior to coming to live in the UK at the ripe old age of 35 I had never heard of that word. I heard it in teaching circles since and it did take me a little time to figure out what it meant. I really caught on one day because a teacher commenting on the surprisingly good exam results of a lazy student said she was so chuffed. Then she commented on his poor work attitude throughout year 11. Someone asked what she thought was the reason for his turnaround. She said she did not know or care but she was so pleased. It was then that I realised pleased can also mean chuffed. This week, I am chuffed with some things that have gone on so I will share those with you now.
We have been thinking of what new country to tick off our bucket list and we think we have decided on Ghana. There are only a few Ghanaians that we do know, and we know that we love their cuisine , culture and weather conditions. There is a lot we don’t know yet so we think an idea would be to visit there. On Sunday, we were treated to a dining experience at a Ghanaian restaurant. It was a truly lovely affair. The restaurant was small and intimate, the food was spicy and lovely (we do love spice) and the gentleman who hosted us was so attentive. The servers were nice too and a few of them tried speaking to us in their native language which was quite interesting so I think we look like we could be Ghanaian which is good, as when we visit there, we don’t want to ‘stand out’. if you stand out then you are a tourist and almost everything go up a notch in price. We had fufu, soup, jollof rice and fried fish. It was all very delicious but for whatever reason, we failed to try the tradition of eating with our hand. Let’s see what happens when we get there though.
Talking about expenses and price, we were chuffed this week too to be paid by Google! It is not much but it will help us to cover some of the expenses for running the YouTube channel and the blog, so we are grateful. There are so many who run both and are not in receipt of any revenue yet, so: a win is a win.We also got notification for some KDP payments for our book Living Life While Squeezing Lemons.
The kitchen is coming on nicely and that too we are pleased with. It has been so long in the making and to see it coming to fruition is delightful. We have ‘suffered’ quite a bit by not being able to use the kitchen, but we knew that time was coming and we had decided not to be moaners about it. We will share the final results with you, as a matter of fact we have the 3 evolutions of the kitchen to share and we will do so on the YouTube channel. Below is a sneak peek though.
We do give to charity, both cash and kind, but this week we also decided to do more to support a charity that is close to our heart. The charity is called ADRA – Adventist Development and Relief Agency. We know of the wonderful work they do in developing countries and they are an arm of our church so we want to do more. This week, we were able to do some work with our Cricut machine and some water bottles that we had bought a long time ago. We are not good at marketing so although we did do well with them during the pandemic, we had a lot left over. We are personalizing and selling them to whoever is interested. So far, counting this week only we have had about £50 worth of orders which we have already fulfilled. The funds will go to ADRA.
My little seedlings are doing well too. They live in the shed for the most part, but they do get an increased amount of time outside daily so that they can soak up what little sunlight is available. Let us live in hope. I hear that next week will be glorious weather so I look forward to even more blooms. The warmer weather does bring out more blooms, more birds and bees and more joy to our souls so we are looking forward to that too.
We hope you had a good week too.

I love the word chuffed. I used it all the time when I am pleased with something.
My eldest works with a Ghanaian and he is always bringing food in for her and the rest of the night shift to try. She has said it’s amazing but a bit spicy for her. The restaurant sounds like a great place to eat.
Well done on your pay out from Google and your book! I am glad the kitchen is coming along well. I can’t wait to see the final result.
Those bottles look great, what a great thing to do for the charity. x

I like the word ‘chuffed’, such a lovely positive word. The evening at the Ghanaian restaurant sounds really lovely. I’ve never tried Ghanaian food. So glad the kitchen is coming on nicely. Love the water bottles. What a great idea to help support your chosen charity. #WotW
