Five Affordable Ways to Update Your Interiors

This post may contain affiliate links

Over the last year, we have spent more time than ever before at home. For most it has given us time to evaluate our living arrangements, perhaps you’ve decided to move home or made small updates here and there to create a cosy haven. However, for many those changes become unattainable without throwing in the rising costs of building materials. But it doesn’t mean you still can’t make some small changes to update your interiors. We explore 5 affordable ways to update your home interiors that will help to breathe some new life into your space.

 Update Your Sockets & Switches

Interior hardware is often something that is mistakenly overlooked in a home. But, Sockets and switches are one of the most appraised items in the room that are used day in and day out.

Updating these can make a bigger impact on the overall aesthetic of the room than you think. Elesi has a fantastic range of sockets and switches. The best thing is that their Lieber ranges are both stylish and affordable without compromising on quality.
Also, let’s talk about screws! There’s no point haven’t a stylish socket when you have a pair of ghastly screws in full sight. Their metal ranges include copper, brushed chrome, polished chrome and black nickel which are completely screwless! Amazing, right? The prices start from £6 and are no more than £40. You could affordably swap your interior hardware room by room, adding an affordable and stylish update.

 Add A Gallery Wall

Especially in newbuild homes, it can often be difficult to add character and depth to a room. The same goes with being introduced with a blank canvas and not quite being able to put your finger on what is missing. Adding some statement art or creating a gallery wall with your favourite prints, artwork or photographs will add pops of colour and character to your walls. Popular places for creating a gallery wall are in the hallways going up the stairs, a home office, dining room and bedroom.

Update Cabinet Handles & Knobs

Updating cabinet handles and doorknobs is an incredibly inexpensive and super-easy way to update your interiors. Whilst you’re at it you could even look to update the paint colours of the cabinets. Many people opt for this when they’re in need of a new kitchen but affordability doesn’t allow it. It can help to make your space more liveable and enjoyable without breaking the bank. It can even help to increase the value of your home! We recently updated our kitchen ourselves during the lockdown and it was truly a satisfying project that gave the whole house a different look and feel.
You really shouldn’t have to buy a new kitchen.

 Add Some Panelling

There’s no doubt that you will have seen panelling at some point on Pinterest and Instagram in the last year as the trend continues to grow in popularity. It’s easy to see why though as it’s a great way to add instant period authenticity, warmth and interest to a room.
Panelling is a surefire way of breaking up a black canvas for a wall and adding some serious charm to a new build home, giving it its own stamp of uniqueness. There are so many DIY videos on the internet that you don’t need to bring in a carpenter to get it fitted. This is one of the things on our to-do list to try ourselves and this summer we plan to give it a go by starting off with the door to the pantry.
You never know what you can achieve until you give it a go!

Refresh Your Rooms With New Paint

We’ve talked about this one before as a way to really spruce up and maintain your home throughout the year. Of course, one of the easiest ways to change a room is with the colour scheme. It’s always a good idea to repaint every few years anyway as the colour will dull over time. A new lick of paint can completely transform a space from dull and dreary to something really eye-catching.
If you’re looking to go clean and minimal, opt for a neutral shade but try and bring in pops of colour through your furnishings to add some visual interest. If you’re going for a bold look, do some research and pinning beforehand so you can see how it might work in your home. A dark colour can quickly become oppressive and alter the lighting in the room if it’s not dressed or lit accordingly.
There are so many ways we can continue to enjoy our own homes with a little bit of elbow grease and some imagination to create our dream space. If you’d like, please share any other thoughts you may have on the topic. You can use the comment box below.
