Five Frugal Things- Topcashback is the definite winner this week!

This post may contain affiliate links

I’m always thinking of ways I can save some money. Whether it’s grabbing a bargain in the shops or planning my meals for the week, I am always on the lookout. And guess what? There are ways to make savings that a lot of people don’t know about. I’d suggest that you keep your eyes and ears open to others who know and share their ideas willingly. This week my biggest win came from Topcashback and I only just recently started using it.

Sharing our frugal ways each week helps us to stay on track. Our best save this week came from Topcasback and we want you to know how you can save too. You will need to download the app to start using it to save hundreds on your everyday purchases including appliances, technology products, flights, and even hotels

On Facebook, there are several groups set up for just this reason. I’d love you to join mine. You can learn from those who have the know-how, and you can also share your own tips or steals too. I find that people are willing to share their ideas when you share yours. There’s value in being a part of such a community. So, come on over.

This week was such a hectic one for us as we were in and out working on different projects. If you’ve subscribed to our newsletter, you’d know about THE BIG PROJECT we are working on but can’t quite say anything much about it yet. Despite the mad rush this week and sometimes not being totally in charge of our next move, we kept our heads screwed on long enough to make sure there was no overspend. Planning ahead of time that you will not overspend definitely works.

Of course, we were tempted but because we always have the bigger plans in mind, we didn’t yield.

Our biggest win this week features the money back app, Topcashback. Let’s share some of the smaller wins first, and then tell you about it.

A bar of chocolate

This week we tried out the app Shopmium for the first time. It’s a shopping app that suggests you buy certain items (usually grocery items) and then they give you some cash back when you scan your receipt using the app. So, to try it out, we bought the Cadbury’s chocolate bar as suggested. And sure enough, when we scanned the receipt, the £1 we paid for it went straight back into our PayPal account.

I love passing around good news like this because I am sure a lot of people don’t know about it. It does work, you should try it and see.

Random acts of frugal kindness with flowers, chocolate and wine

At the start of the week, I attended the BlogonX blogging conference for the first time. See how I got on here. There were lots of goodies to be had and some of it I don’t really use. So what we decided to do, is to be neighbourly and pass on the love by giving some of the items away. We definitely believe in doing random acts of frugal kindness. Who knows? One day it will come back to you.

So, at the end of the conference, I overheard a gentleman behind me saying to someone something to the effect that he wished he had gotten one of the lovely bunches of flowers for his wife. That’s all I needed to hear, in order to turn around and give mine to him. Afterall, I was travelling all the way from Manchester by tram, train, and taxi. I just didn’t know what state those flowers would be in by the time I got home.

I really do hope she liked them and that alone would make me feel happy about that gesture. Afterall, I know how much a bunch of flowers can brighten up your day.

Train travel snacks

So this week, our travels took us to several places, including Manchester, Bradford and Leicester. We took the train on all three occasions and I couldn’t help but roll my eyes at the ridiculous prices for snacks and drinks from the little serving cart! Those folk are making a killing with such exorbitant prices!

So the next time we were leaving home to go on a train journey, we made sure to pack our own snacks and drink, which saved us a fortune. We learnt our lesson from the first trip when we purchased a small packet of peanuts on the train. I mean the price we paid meant that we should have shares in the company…almost!

All these little spends do add up! Do the maths and you will see.

Grey Hairs sneaking up

Don’t laugh, but we’ve been noticing more and more grey hairs creeping up on us. Once, we went to the hairdresser to have it dyed and it looked great but only lasted for a week or so. The price was closer to £50 than to £40 and I vowed never to go back.

As our hair is natural, we don’t use any expensive treatments at all. We manage it all on our own, including the washing, blow-drying, and styling.

It dawned on me recently when I saw this lady with blonde hair and very thick, black eyelashes, that she must use something that we could use!

So, whenever we feel like hiding the grey hairs in the front temporarily, we use a bit of mascara! My hair is actually growing well, so I don’t think there are any harmful benefits. What do you think? And the one bottle will last us quite a long time it seems. So our £1 will go a long way.

Topcashback is a super savvy app for the clever

When you just don’t know something, you pay dearly for it! We’ve been booking holidays over the years to Sweden, France, the USA, Jamaica and Turkey, to name a few. Can you imagine how much we would have saved over the years if we had known about and used Topcashback?

Just this week, my elderly neighbour asked if I could book some flights and accommodation for her, her husband, and two grandchildren to Barbados. I had a mini battle going on in my head about whether to go through and use the Topcashback app. What would you do? Well, I thought if I could save her some money, it would be well worth it. I expected to get about fifty pounds back, using the app so imagine how pleasantly surprised she will be at the end of June when she returns from her holiday and I present her with her cash back of £217.30

My Topcashback app account shows me that I will get back over £200. If this isn’t a good, money saving app, I don’t know what is. I really would encourage you to sign up and start using it. Just check before you shop whether there are any offers on. I’m eyeing a certain Macbook so will let you know how it pans out.

If you haven’t used it yet, take it from me that it is worth it. It shows you a number of companies which are offering deals on anything from tickets to electronics.

So there you have it. Just some of the ways this week that we managed to save some money. I hope you have been inspired to especially check out and use Topcashback.
