This post is filled with simple tips for ways to boost your health at home. I don’t know about you but I am absolutely scared of getting ill. For one, I hate pain, and I really wouldn’t want to be in a hospital now.
For that reason, we have resorted to doing what we can at home so that we can boost our health. Of course, we are allowed to go out for a walk or for fresh air outside but for fear of being exposed to the virus, we opt to stay home. We did purchase a few balls so that we could play outside but it’s still way too cold for that.
So here are our ideas for boosting your health from home. Some of them are definitely not new but we have resolved to be more consistent with how often we do these. To be honest, it’s been a long time that any of us have had a cold or flu. In fact, it has been well over a year. So let’s share some of what we have been doing.
Make green juice to boost your health
Every morning now, we have a glass of green juice. There are some days when we don’t get to have our suggested amount of fruits and veggies per day so it is good to get this out of the way from as early in the day as possible. We make it strong on the ginger especially as it is said to have anti-inflammatory properties. The taste is a bit harsh but we endure the shot of it daily for the sake of boosting our health.
Thankfully, we can order in all the ingredients in our grocery order and it is delivered to our door.
Nature’s Penicillin
I have to laugh here. We ran out of cayenne pepper so I just wrote it on a piece of paper.
But for several years now, especially during the cold weather when we are more likely to have a cold or flu, we have been making and having Nature’s Penicillin. It is said that right when you feel a cold coming on, instead of reaching for a commercial reliever, just blend these ingredients up, put it in a jar, and take a spoonful of the mixture 3 times per day.
It is important to remember to take out the amount you are going to use for the day so it is at room temperature. Some people add a tablespoon of honey to take the edge off the bitter taste. We sometimes add a piece of pineapple or some pineapple juice for that reason.
Everyday Vitamins and Zinc
When we went to the pharmacy recently to pick up our prescription, we found the everyday vitamins and zinc that we are told we need now to boost our health. They aren’t as expensive as we thought they would be so we got a few bottles so we could take some daily.
Zinc is found in cells throughout the body. It helps the immune system fight off invading bacteria and viruses. The body also needs zinc to make proteins and DNA, the genetic material in all cells.
We have heard so much about zinc recently and especially related to the current Coronavirus situation. You just can’t be too careful.
Try simple weights
Recently we have been feeling like our upper body, especially our arms and shoulders are pained with even minimal lifting. We figure it is because we are at home so much and don’t really get to do much physical activity.
Our solution to that was to get a set of weights from Amazon to use. They are only 2kg each and they even came with a sheet of paper with how to use them for different areas of the body.
Now we try to do them at least 10 minutes in the morning and the afternoon. I like these because they are padded and one edge is also flat so it does not roll away once you place them on the floor.
Get enough sleep and sunshine
I know that this one is hard for most of us. For one, there are so many things happening around us that are affecting our sleep. I know that I am very restless once I wake up during the night and it’s because I have so much to think about. I’ve done some research and made this post about what helps.
On the issue of sunshine, I try to sit in the sunniest spot inside the house to get my work done each day. I know that the vitamin D needed by my body is vital to help to boost my mood and so even though I am not going out, I make use of what I can get from the comfort of my home.
If you have a conservatory or sunroom, it is a good idea to sit there while it is sunny.
Tell us what you do to boost your own health. We might just have to steal some of your ideas too.
