I just love the frugal lifestyle and I also love to report when I see others being frugal. So this week, I am going to let you know about our frugal goings-on and also a bit of what I noticed this week that was frugal.
There is a lovely little lady who used to attend my church. I’ve known her for about 16 years. She has been a tower of strength to me especially when I first arrived in this country. She says I’m kind to her but I think that if I could have 1/4 of her kindness, I would be pretty kind indeed. Anyway, she loves joints of meat, but I think it takes her too long in the kitchen when she is cooking, so I have promised to buy her a slow cooker for Christmas.
Well, I went looking for the said slow cooker this week. I was pleasantly surprised to find a suitable one in Tesco for £18. It was drastically reduced. I paid and went home pleased with my purchase. No sooner had I reached home than I saw on Instagram that Asda had a ‘rollback’ on slow cookers and it was for £10! Of course, I went and returned the one and bought the other. So I am grateful that someone did that frugal post on Instagram. If they hadn’t, I would have thought I had a real steal.
For a while now, I have been intrigued by some ladies in a Facebook group I’m in. They are always talking about their ‘freebies’ of the day. So I have taken some tips from them. One of their ideas is about applying for a Debenham’s Beauty Card. So I applied for one but it took months to arrive so much so that I had totally forgotten about it. So imagine my pleasant surprise when it came in the post! I don’t go into Debenham’s too often as, to be honest, I find most things there very expensive. However, I went in with my card and approached the counter to request my ‘free’ perfume sample. I was disappointed to hear that the fragrance for that month was all gone. However, the lovely lady gave me a number of other samples. So for a good while to come, I will not need to splash out on any perfume.
A lot of our travels this week and for the past couple of weeks have been on the train. We usually take snacks from home for the journey. Once in a while, we go into WH Smith to get snacks. This week we had a fair deal of McDonald’s vouchers which we will make use of. In fact, this week so far we have had lunch at Mcdonalds twice. It’s been worth it because most other restaurants are far more expensive. Have you seen the new salads they have now too? I like the New Jamaican Jerk Chicken burger which I have without the bacon. The sauce is indeed sweet and spicy.
I like admiring shop styling and dressing and often wonder in amazement at the cost they must pay to have all that space beautified. The array of colours that change from season to season is replicated in stores. I just think that is beautiful. Well, today I was on the High Street and was amazed to see a charity shop window frugally dressed. Guess what with? Leaves! Real Autumn leaves! It looked really beautiful. I think more and more people should follow this idea.
You know me. As soon as I hear about a money saving or money making App, I install it and use it. Snap My Eats is the latest App I have heard about. When you have receipts which include food items, you scan the receipt, gain points and then are rewarded with an Amazon voucher each month. It adds up because that’s £60 worth of Amazon vouchers for the year! And all you have to do is snap and upload pictures of your receipts! I love it!
This week I passed through the Co-op supermarket too and saw that they were doing their bit for those in need by asking that people donate items. I thought that was so generous of the Co-op to facilitate this. We are doing our own collection too. And this year we have decided to help at least two people who we know personally. Read all about that here.
The savings are piling up and any extras these days go towards paying off debt including the mortgage. I love this frugal life and would encourage you to get on board if you have not yet.
In case you haven’t seen it yet (or you are outside of the UK and unable to see it, we won the food shopping challenge again this week. This challenge is right up our street as it involves shopping in the market and it is something we love to do. There are so many tips to share though, the series would be much longer and each episode would be more than one hour! See 50 of my top tips for grocery shopping too!
This photo was taken right after the win. A few days later, I posted on Facebook that we were ‘Twinning’ it, lol. It was a busy but fun week for us.
We are linking with Cass, Emma and Becky in this week’s ‘Five Frugal things I’ve done this week.
Let us know what you have seen or done recently that lends towards living the frugal lifestyle. Do have a fab week ahead.
xoxo

Oooohhh, what is the food shopping challenge? It sounds interesting! Is that what you have been filming, I’m sure I’ve seen you mention filming somewhere? Congratulations on winning! Tesco also have a food bank appeal, and they are topping-up donations received by 20% which is awesome! Have a lovely week x

Hi Hannah
You should watch Channel 5 on a Thursday at 8pm. The show is called Shot Smart, Save Money and it aims to show UK families how they can save money. So the show has different segments. I am in the segment where I work with another blogger to see who can get some items (usually 3 meals) for a family at the cheapest price. This segment is competitive so each week people look forward to see whether we (my twin and I) will win over the other blogger Kelly. You can watch it on Plus 1 or on a Saturday evening it’s usually on just after 7pm.
I also know about Tesco’s food bank appeal, just that I was passing through Co op the other day in my community and I took a pic of their appeal box.
Thanks for stopping by Hannah.
