Keeping a journal in my view is a very good idea. It serves a number of purposes. It can be used to express gratitude, and even to keep your secrets when others can’t be trusted to keep them. It is a way to document what happens in your life each day and most importantly, it can also serve as valuable evidence of, well, something, anything. I’ve seen things like that in some crime documentaries. In fact, a lot of crimes have been solved by looking at the journal entries of some of the characters involved.
So it’s a good idea to keep one. As a child, I remember writing diary entries on paper, then in a ‘real’ diary. But I was not truly committed. I have still not taken it up but I still suggest that it is a good idea. Some might not know what to write in a journal or even how to start one. So I am going to share some that were shared with me by a friend.
Since at the time I am writing this it is Autumn, October more specifically, I am going to suggest journal prompts for the month of October. If you are planning on keeping a journal, October is as good a time as any to start. So I hope you find these prompts useful. Even if you don’t decide until November or even later, these prompts should still help.
Day 1 – Write down the things you can look forward to this month.
Day2 – Find something to be optimistic about today, even if it’s a difficult time
Day 3 – Take a step toward a goal that is really important to you
Day 4 – Start your day with the most important thing on your to-do list.
Day 5 – See life as it is but focus on what is good
Day 6 – Remind yourself that things can change for the better.
Day 7 – Look for the good in people around you today.
Day 8 – Make some progress on a task you have been avoiding.
Day 9 – Share an important goal with someone you trust/in your journal.
Day 10 – Take time to reflect on what you have accomplished recently.
Day 11 – Avoid blaming yourself or others, find a better way forward.
Day 12 – Look out for positive news or other reasons to be cheerful today.
Day 13 – Ask for help to overcome an obstacle you are facing.
Day 14 – Do something constructive to improve a difficult situation.
Day 15 – Give yourself a pat on the back for achieving something you thought impossible.
Day 16 – Put down your to-do list and engage in something more fun for a while.
Day 17 – You, yes you, take a small step to do something you wish more people did to improve our world.
Day 18 – Set hopeful but realistic goals for the days ahead.
Day 19 – Tackle that task you have been putting off for a while.
Day 20 – Identify at least one of the positive attributes that you can celebrate.
Day 21 – Right now, focus on what you want to achieve and not so much on what others want you to achieve.
Day 22 – Send someone a lovely text, do it now
Day 23 – Just know that the choice is yours as to what to prioritize
Day 24 – List 3 things that have gone well recently
Day 25 – What thing should have top priority in your life right now?
Day 26 – Try to see a point someone is making from his/her vantage point
Day 27 – Progress takes time, so be kind to yourself.
Day 28 – That thing weighing heavily on your mind, ask yourself: will it matter a year from now?
Day 29 – Plan an exciting activity for yourself and perhaps others to engage in
Day 30 – What 3 things give you hope for the future
Day 31 – What are you most looking forward to next month?
These are, as I say, prompts so use them as and when you want to. Your journal is yours and what you use it for, is also your decision.
Be happy. Be blessed.

My youngest keeps a journal and loves it. She just writes her thoughts and feelings in it and it is good for her.
What great prompts. Some of these would be great for blog posts too. x
