June’s Best Bits

This post may contain affiliate links

Every month we do a summary of the best bits of the month. Most times we sum up the things, opportunities etc that we are grateful for in the month.  We are still super grateful for every opportunity (blessings) that come our way. This month, however, we want to tell you about some of our favourite bits of homeware items that we have used in June. We want to be intentional about being more organised and efficient and also eco friendly. These items I’m about to share with you have certainly helped us along this journey. We believe these would help you too to become a more organised person in the home.

We share a little video with our favourite bits below. (At the bottom of this post).

Glassware

The first set of items that have helped us, are in the glassware category. We do a lot of cooking and also showcase our cooking both for our YouTube channel as well as because we work with food brands and need to have nice looking equipment to cook with and also to serve the dishes.

Glass Baking Trays

So we purchased a set of glass baking trays that are so sleek and sturdy. They are microwave safe, dishwasher safe and of course oven safe. We have used them so far for many of our baked items and we are super pleased with their appearance. They really do enhance the presentation and in our estimation, they look much more classy than their metal counterparts. What do you think?

Here, I used them to make scones for our recent picnic.

Glass Food Storage Boxes

This year, we want to decrease our use of plastic in various forms. We are going to do this gradually so that it does not cost us too much for the initial outlay and also so that we can choose really nice replacements. We wanted some good looking food storage containers. We needed to have different sizes and of course different shapes to make them suitable for various dishes and occasions.

The ones we chose were super affordable and they are great for decanting foodstuff into for storage in the fridge or freezer. They are also oven and microwave and dishwasher safe. We have made food over and over in them, we have taken salads and scones in them to the park for a picnic date and we really do love them.

Blue Glass Spray Bottles

In a further attempt to be more eco friendly, we wanted to eliminate the use of harmful cleaning chemicals from our home, and instead, to create our own cleaning products that would not be harmful to us or to the environment. Of course, once we discovered how to make them, we then needed to decant the cleaners into spray bottles that we could use over and over again. They could therefore not be plastic. They also had to be aesthetically pleasing.

So we found these gorgeous blue glass bottles that were a steal in terms of the price. They are a firm favourite and we hope to keep them for years to come. They are glass, so I just have to be extra careful with them, but I certainly do not want to go back to having lots of plastic bottles in the cleaning cupboard.

Essential Oils

We have watched the trend of essential oils and diffusers and candles getting more and more popular, and whilst we do not want to jump onto any unnecessary bandwagon, we must admit that we have come to love essential oils. Some of the cleaning liquids use vinegar and whilst it does an excellent job, the smell can be a bit not so pleasant so we have used essential oils in each cleaner. ‘Sensational!

So far we have orange and baby powder scents. What others would you recommend? We do want to be more adventurous and branch out even further with essential oils.

Sonic Scrubber

I rate myself as somewhat of a mini maid – I love to clean. However, don’t judge me but cleaning the shower is not one of my favourite household chores! That is until I got this recommendation from an Instagram friend for the Sonic Scrubber! Honestly, it has been a game-changer and the best thing for cleaning the grout in between the tiles in the shower.

It is so good. It is like a toothbrush but larger, it comes with 4 interchangeable heads some large, some small and it is battery operated. Now there is no need for me to be doing extra scrubbing. This has been a great recommendation and now I recommend it to you. It will definitely make your life easier when cleaning the bathroom.

The person whose recommendation I took also has an extra set which she says she uses for handy jobs in the kitchen including cleaning the stove and oven.

Melamine Trays

We bought 3 marble effect melamine trays which have become so useful. Honestly, I don’t know how we managed so long without them. We use them for transporting fruits or other snacks to eat out on the conservatory or even outside in the garden. They are absolutely beautiful and come highly recommended.

Camera Tripod

We must admit that this recommendation might not be interesting to many of you, but we are over the moon with this purchase! Like I said before, we do a lot of cooking and also photographing the cooking as well as the finished dishes. In the past, we have made all sorts of contraptions to set up the cameras to get the right shots from different angles. We have run the risk of the camera falling into boiling hot pans on many occasions!

Well thanks to this spanking new tripod, this is not a possibility. The angled head of the tripod, make it so that we can get various shots with relative ease by just a slight turn of the handle of the tripod. Our game is going to be UP!

Individual sized chip Baskets

Our last recommendation today are these beautiful individual portion-sized chip basket. They help to make food presentation so beautiful when serving chips as part of a meal. We have noticed that many restaurants use these now and so we did not want to be left out. They are beautiful. They mimic the larger chip baskets that are used for cooking the large batch of chips. The design of these ones in particular are so elegant.

We hope you have been inspired by these our June best bits. They have helped us immensely at home and we trust they will help you too as you up your game of organising, cooking and cleaning for your family.
