My Word of the Week is New

This post may contain affiliate links

I chose this word because I started my new job this week and I want to document how it went. There were other new things too so here goes. It has been a good week and I am so grateful that things went well.

Sunday was spent mostly at home but in the afternoon we went to a friend’s (SURPRISE) 70th birthday party. I say it this way because we weren’t told that it was a surprise but some people were. We could have inadvertently given it away because earlier in the week we had gone to the celebrant’s home to deliver our gift as it would have been too big and heavy to take to the party which was held at a venue a little way from home. What if we had said ‘See you on Sunday’! Needless to say, we were shocked when we realised that it was a surprise 70th birthday party. Anyway, I wore my new Clarks shoe that I got in a charity shop for £6 last Friday. It was very comfy and perfect for the occasion as it matched my outfit well too.

On Monday morning I got ready for my new job at the council. There were no nerves until I got there and found that I didn’t have a login for my computer. Apparently, it was emailed to me but I searched through my emails and couldn’t find it. I had to look through my old personal email as well as through the new one with the council. Eventually, the IT team had to do a reset and the wait was over an hour!

I also asked Leisa to take a photo of me as I was sure they would need one to produce my new Birmingham City Council ID badge. Needless to say,  I felt like I was going into a new class or a new school on the first day of term. The gray hairs gave it away though, lol.

I met my new work colleagues and couldn’t help that they were all younger (much younger) than me. I couldn’t help but notice how far they were on the computers and switching between screens and different applications though. I had ‘new girl on the job’ syndrome right away. Anyway, I told myself that none of them were born knowing how to do it all. They had to learn and so will I. Right attitude, huh?

I like that my department is culturally diverse and I got to meet everyone except for one young lady who is on holiday. I must say I was impressed with their welcome and general work attitude and I didn’t have any nervous energy at all. I’m hoping that things will remain this way and not stress laden as it was when I had to leave teaching. Fingers crossed for good days ahead.

Word of the Week linky
I also have somewhat of a new routine this week of waking up early, getting ready for the day and then going for a 20 to 25 minutes walk in my neighbourhood. It’s been such a good feeling and I seriously had to consider it as if I don’t it means that I’d be sitting down all day. I do try to get up sometimes when I’m working.
Funny new one… I changed my picture (the one above) on emails and in Microsoft Teams etc, as I haven’t yet got used to seeing my photo in every email I send out! I can’t imagine others getting used to it yet either and I do feel self conscious. So I’ve changed my profile pic to an avatar I found on Whatsapp! Let me know what you think.
Hopefully when people see this it will give them a smile. I hope you have had a good week too. It’s 8:15 am and time for me to head off to work! Thanks to Anne as usual.

I hope your new job goes well. I moved teams in January and I’m learning lots of new things. I find it tiring being older and learning all the new things but still enjoyable. I like that you are going for morning walks. Its good to get out and about, I miss our morning walk to the school #WotW

The walks have left me feeling refreshed so now I look forward to it. And my work colleagues seem friendly and helpful enough so far. Fingers crossed it continues to go well.

Congratulations on finally starting your new job, I’m sure you’ll feel right at home very soon. I love your photo and your avatar. I’m glad you enjoyed the party and that you didn’t give the surprise away, how weird not to be told it was a surprise party. We gave my brother a surprise party for his 70th and it went really well.
