Routine is our Word of the Week

This post may contain affiliate links

We have had a pretty routine week around here. There’s nothing major to report as we all just got on with what is, for us, the normal things. Lately, we have been trying to eek out the very last bits of the Summer and we were quite pleased that we had some sunny days this week.

On Sunday us girls went out together to do some shopping and then stopped for lunch which was our main meal. It was fast food (I won’t say which one) but it was quite nice as we hadn’t had it in a long time. In August we tried it in Florida but it wasn’t all that. KFC here is better than in the States. Oops, yes it was KFC. The taste of Jamaican KFC is the best in the world! That’s what a lot of people say, but you’ll have to try it to prove it for yourself.

I tried a chicken burger that I hadn’t tried before. The addition to the regular chicken burger was a sauce ( I can’t remember which one) and also a hash brown. I like crispy hash browns and this one wasn’t as it had been sitting on top of the hot meat so was rather limp and soggy.

This week we both had rescheduled blood tests which were successful this time. Last week we went to our local doctor but neither the nurse nor the doctor could find any vein with blood (they must have been hiding). So after 4 or so attempts, they gave up and sent us to another facility. We had to book the appointment over the phone and I couldn’t get one to suit us both together so we went separately. For me, it felt like a real day out! I left home at almost 4 PM for my 4:25 appointment. These days I’m not used to being out during the week as I am always at work so getting the time off to go do the blood test gave me the chance to walk on the High Street and look in at the shops. I even popped into LIDL and got a back of peanuts that I had been craving for a little while. The smell of food coming from the shops (mostly Asian) was mesmerizing but I restrained myself.

This weekend we are looking forward to meeting up with friends. It will be about 7 of us and we are going for an Indian street food feast. No, it won’t be on the streets. It’s actually in a restaurant that one of the ladies picked but we are having Indian Style street food. I’ve never tried it before. Unless they mean like Pakoras and Samosas etc. I do love those.

I have something that I need to document and check out. You folk might need to remind me next year. Last year, a crack appeared across my big toenail on the right foot. This year, the same thing! I don’t know what that means but if you do, please enlighten me. I’ll leave it like that until it’s time to wear shoes and boots and then I’ll do a self surgery to remove the top half of the nail. I’m still enjoying wearing open-toed shoes or sandals until I can’t anymore.

Sorry if that last pic was offensive. Imagine me having to live with it every day!

This week too, I got a little break one day and took out the sewing machine, dusted it off, and oiled it. Hopefully it is working now. I like when I feel like making or repairing something that the machine is ready to go. The last time I tried using it the thread kept breaking. Fingers crossed it will be ok.

And oh, I’ve got the sequel to the book IT ENDS WITH US. This one is entitled IT STARTS WITH US. I’m looking forward to reading it but no time yet. We hope you have had a fab week and thanks so much for catching up with us this week. See how different our last Routine Word of the Week post went.

This week we gave Julie-Ann some of our home made pumpkins to decorate her apartment with. Hopefully, next week when she sends us some pics we will be able to share.

I hate it when they can’t find veins for blood tests and such. I remember once having six attempts at a cannula, good job I don’t mind needles. I have the opposite now because I treat at home and it’s under the skin, I have to be careful not to get the needles in a vein. So far I’ve only done it once! I’m not sure what’s wrong with your toe nail but we have had issues in our house, my daughter’s toe nail kept getting infected and after 5 years they decided to remove it completely (I know yuk!) But she doesn’t get any pain any more and if she has her toes on show she paints her skin with nail varnish and it’s really hard to tell. I have a crack in my thumb nail which grows with my nail. I’ve had it about 10 years. It’s ok until the nail grows then I have to keep it short because it is completely spit. It’s vertical though and I’m pretty sure it’s due to damage underneath my thumb where the nail grows from. I don’t know anything about horizontal cracks reappearing though, sorry.

I could have used routine for my WotW too. It’s nice to have a quiet week with just normal things happening.
I think I have had KFC once in my life and I wasn’t impressed with it, the one nearest to us was closed for a couple of months due to a rat problem so that put me off even more.
Eek! To the blood tests, my youngest has the worst veins so it’s always a struggle to get blood from her. I am glad yours were successful this time. It does sound like a fab afternoon out.
Have a great weekend and enjoy the food!
That is odd about your toenail, I have no idea. I hope you can get to the bottom of what has caused it.

Routine can be nice sometimes. I do like a nice KFC. Only ever tried it in the UK so can’t compare it from elsewhere. Glad the blood tests went okay and hope the results are okay. Hope you enjoyed your Indian street food feast. Lovely to have the sewing machine ready to go. Mine really needs to go for a service. #WotW

I love the concept of “Routine” as your Word of the Week! Establishing a solid routine can make such a difference. What’s one routine change you’ve implemented that has had the biggest impact on your daily life? Excited to hear your thoughts!
