It’s been half term this week and it’s been a really good one. Unlike when we were teaching and half term was still filled with tension and stress, this week’s half term was a more relaxed one.
Leisa and I had planned out a week of activities to have Vacation Bible School at church for the kids. We grew up with it in Jamaica and used to enjoy it. Thankfully we have had enough volunteers to make it a lovely experience for everyone. I could only go on Monday (as it was a bank holiday so didn’t have to work and Thursday (I worked online from the venue until lunchtime), but Leisa was there every day.
The days began with singing, a devotional about why they are special, and then crafting and learning retro games. I am pleased to say that I think it was a success. The kids loved the retro games like playing marbles, jacks, hand clapping games, button whizzer, and others. The ages of the children ranged from 4 to 12 and we had some teenagers helping out too. We even had some men volunteer to be kitchen staff preparing the lunches on two of the days. I know that it’s been a lovely half term for the little ones and their parents because otherwise, some of them might have spent the time just sitting in front of the tv. Getting the chance to play outside in the sunshine was nice too. The weather has been kind to us and most days we didn’t even need a coat!
Leisa also created this frame which was then used for the kids to take a special photograph as a keepsake of VBS 2024. I then blinged up the photos on Canva and each parent will get one of their child. As we speak, the goodie bags of gifts and memorabilia are being prepared for the kids too.
For me, it has been a lighter week too. As I work with adults who look after school children, this week was a bit less stressful and I could breathe a little easier. Some jobs needed to be done but there was less volume and also, they could be paced. It was truly a lovely half-term.
To celebrate, we will be going for a lovely family dinner at a curry house this weekend. I’ve never done that before but I fancy trying something new and different. Let’s see how much spice we can tolerate. The venue is usually crowded when it is half-term but we will see.
Hope you’ve had a fab week and got a break too from the hectic nature of life. Thanks to Anne for creating this lovely Linky that allows us to share.

That sounds like a really lovely half term. I love the bling on the photos. Slugs and snails are the bane of my life at the moment, must be all the wet weather! Hope you enjoy your meal out.

What a really lovely half term. I used to go to these kind of things with my kids when they were young and they loved it. I don’t think they’ve even been out of their pjs this week, but we have had some gaming fun.
