Here, Heir, and Hair: Word of the Week

Don’t you just love the English language and its play on words? I can just imagine that it must be difficult for a non-native speaker of English to learn it all from scratch. We really must say well done to people like this.

I’ve been so engrossed in work that I’ve not had much time to listen to or watch the news. But I do get to watch a few TikTok videos before I go to bed most nights. I really learn a lot and also get caught up with what’s going on HERE in the country. I learned on TikTok that we are expecting an election HERE soon. I don’t remember when it is but that will soon be refreshed when I get to watch the news. By the way, I’ve never voted in an election before! Don’t all come at me. Where I was socialized, elections brou.ght much division and even bloodshed. So over the years I’ve just stayed away from it. Speaking of elections, we also have to rethink our Ghana trip as they are going to have elections right in the time we were planning to go. It can get really violent at election times and this year is predicted to be particularly dreadful, so we will have to reschedule.

This week at work I had a little chuckle about someone’s use of the word HEIR. They had actually typed HARE in reference to the HEIR to the throne in Dubai. (That’s another country on my bucket list BTW). Then later on I found these videos with people talking about how the king there was mistreating and imprisoning his daughters who were unhappy with the way he wielded power. It’s a scary narrative if we are to believe what we read. It made me think that too much money and power does really corrupt people. It made me think too about our HEIR to the throne HERE and what they might be going through. With Princess Kate’s cancer diagnoses, I wonder where their priorities are now.

OK, over to us HERE! This week Leisa and I were not happy with the state of our HAIR. For one, we seem to be greying very quickly and suddenly. It’s as if someone just revealed our age! But also, our hair has seemed rather thick and unmanageable for about 3 weeks now. Then we remembered that someone had gifted us some free hair products months ago and we only recently started using them when our usual ones ran out. Oh, why did we not stick to our usual products? Well, because the ones we got for free meant we didn’t have to spend money on hair products for some time. So we have now packed them up and gifted them to someone with lighter HAIR.

Word of the Week linky

We had always said that we would embrace our greys when the time came. Trust me, this week was not the week for that. We were so miserable with our HAIR. To help hide the greys and also give our hair a break and a chance to recover from the damage done by the free products, we arranged for someone to come and give us both a protective hairstyle which we both love. Hopefully, this will keep us hushed for a bit.

HERE too, the slugs and snails are giving us a hard time to get some of what we planted. We enjoyed the showers for the plants’ sake but we also have great anxiety thinking about the destruction going on at night. The lettuce and other green leafy vegetables in the conservatory look lush and lovely and today Leisa made a pretty salad using some of it.

We hope that you’ve had a good week and all the best for the holiday weekend too.

English is a confusing language. I am English and have spoken it all of my life and I still struggle with some of it. lol
I watch TikTok before bed and find out most of what is going on in the world off there. I will be voting, I always think that what if there was one point in it and I didn’t vote, that would never happen but I would feel so bad if it did. It sounds like you are doing the right thing staying away from Ghana when there could be trouble.
Eek! That is scary about the king of Dubai and I hope our king and Princess Kate are prioritising their health over everything else.
Oh no! Sorry your hair has been giving you trouble. I dye mine to hide the greys. lol x

I’m dying my hair this week. I want to go grey but the process is so slow. I will keep dying until the dye wears off and my hair is completely grey. (I think it happened to my Mum when she was 70, so I’ve a few years yet!) I don’t watch Tik Tok but I’ve heard that our Prime Minister is now on there, so I think I’ll definitely give it a miss as I’m not a fan. I’m sorry you are having to delay your trip to Ghana.

I have to admit I’ve never really considered how fortunate we are in this country that elections are generally quite peaceful things in comparison to other countries. I can understand not voting when things can get violent and it sounds like a good plan to reschedule your trip to Ghana. What a shame that the free products weren’t so good for your hair. Hope that the protective hairstyles have helped give your hair a break from the damage caused by the products. #WotW
