This post is being considered because we are taking part in Blogtober where we will publish a new blog post every day for the month of October. October is generally considered to be Halloween month and a lot of time and attention is given to it. I won’t be doing any Halloween posts but I’m having a think about things I am scared of so I just wanted to share with you.
I think it is human to have fears, so I hope I am not alone in this. Here is my list of fears. They range from simple and tangible things to ideas and situations that would produce tears and sadness, depression even. I hope this will help you to have a think-through too. Especially, I would like you to do what you can to get over some of these fears.
- Snakes
- Spiders
- Bears and other such large animals
- Pain. This one is actually a major fear of mine. I think I’ve already had my fair share of pain in this life
- Insomnia. I read recently of this lady who gets no more than 30 to 40 minutes of sleep each night for months at a time! She prays to get even 3 hours of uninterrupted sleep! I sometimes suffer with this a little but never this bad. It is usually when I have something on my plate that I need to deal with and get past or over with. I’ve done an extensive post about help for insomnia using all the tips I have gathered over the years and most persons have found at least one thing that has helped.
- Heights. I think this is common. But ever since the World Trade Centre fires and also the ones at the block of flats in London, I always think about getting a lower-level room in a hotel, even if I have to put up with the noise of people coming in late at night.
- Losing my twin sister. I have lost a son already and also my dad, but I don’t think I would ever get over the loss if something ever happened to my twin sister.
- Falling. I don’t know why I even think of this but I do. To me, it would be so embarrassing and also difficult to get up! Lol
- Poor health in old age. I think about this a lot too. It’s just so difficult to imagine the helplessness.
Again, I am sure I am not alone in my fears. We all share them. Is your list much different from mine? Let us know in the comments below.

Great post. I have lots of the same fears, especially losing my family. So sorry to hear you lost your son. My son is 19 years old now. We’ve come close to losing him lots of times (due to his heart condition), so I know how lucky we are to have him. I wish yours was still with you. Lots of love and hugs xxx

Oh my, I have lost a brother but I have an older brother who has been more like a father to me (our own father died when I was little) I know the day will come but I dread it. I couldn’t imagine what it must feel like for you to even imagine losing a twin sister your bond is so strong. Getting sick when you’re older is not easy but having family around helps a lot. If I didn’t have my family then I’d be in a care home. Pain doesn’t scare me, you get used to it eventually. x

It’s funny I am scared of the obvious like snakes and spiders but bigger animals don’t bother me its the smaller one’s like hamsters, mice and rats which freak me out.
Oh gosh, insomnia like that would be a real nightmare. I don’t get enough sleep but that’s my own fault being a bit of a night owl and still having to get up on a morning.
I had no idea that you had lost a son. I am so sorry. I think losing a child is one of a parents worst fears. x

It is human to have fears…I too have some so you are not alone Joleisa.
Fear of snakes and height are what we have in common. Added to these are the fear of frogs, alligators / crocodiles, centipedes (known as forty legs in Jamaica).
I dread height to the extent that being in a building that are two to five storeys high, I can’t look outside. Not to mention being in an aeroplane ….this feeling is hard to explain.
I’ve tried and is still trying to get over these fears but I guess professional help is needed.
Great post and thanks for sharing this topic.

So glad to see we are not alone in our fears. Although I am afraid of heights, being in an airplane doesn’t affect me in that way. I guess I love exploring the world more! Thanks so much for reading.
