This week I wrote a post on Facebook about the fact that you should be willing to take risks and move on if you’re in a job that is not fulfilling. I got so many messages from people finding themselves in that position but feeling too scared to make a move. When we left teaching to start blogging, we were just as scared too, but things have a way of working themselves out, trust me.
Going to work every day and knowing that it’s never going to get better, never going to get more interested and probably never going to pay you more is pretty dispiriting. Many people can accept this fate and they stop thinking change is possible. You don’t need to simply accept your lot like this though. There are plenty of ways to escape your dead-end job and actually make life better for yourself. Here’s what to do about it if you want a brighter future.
Find the Courage to Leave
The first thing you need to do is actually gain the courage to leave your current job and start looking for a new one. That first step is perhaps the hardest thing we’ll discuss here today. Not knowing where you’ll go next or what you’ll do is scary. But if you keep putting it off, you will end up in that same dead-end job for years, and that’s the last thing you want.
Assess Your Transferable Skills
No matter what job you’ve been doing, there are certainly going to be the skills you’ve developed doing that job that can be transferred to other jobs. There are always ways to take a skill and apply it to a new scenario and a new career, so this is something that you need to give some thought to. It might help you to work out what your next career step should be.
Improve Your Skills to Improve Your Career
Moving on from a job that you’ve been in for a long time can be tricky if you feel like this is the only job you have the skills and experience to do. There are ways to change that though. First and foremost, you should look to improve your skills and make them relevant to the career you want. Things like home learning with Avado Learning can certainly help you with this.
Work on Your CV
It’s definitely going to be necessary for you to work on your CV so that you can make sure you have a professional document that proves to people that you really know what you’re doing. This is what most employers will judge you on before they even meet you so it needs to be good.
Start Networking
Networking is what you should always do if you want to go the extra mile and help yourself to progress in a new career. You will get the chance to meet people who might be able to help you find that next job and prove yourself. It’s not always easy to put yourself out there like this but if you can find the courage to do it, it should really pay off.

Hi Joleisa,
Thanks for sharing the post, every employee needs this to grow in their career. If a job is unsatisfactory it is good to leave, but no one does because of fear and scared to face future. Anyone who is going to try something new, only the beginning is the hardest, the rest is damn easy.

It is true that most people who hate their jobs still don’t leave. That’s the fear factor. Thankfully though, a lot of people leave and find success elsewhere. Some, like us, work for themselves and quite enjoy the freelance lifestyle.

Leaving a job is also a danger to a worker, but it would be an excellent chance to find and explore more employment that fit their field of research. Working on your CV is also a good idea because the CV is the front line of a worker, it serves as a shield for those who are looking for a job.

Leave your job if you are not already productive and effective. There are more options outside. Have the courage and think of yourself in the future if you still choose to stay on that job. It’s just hard in the beginning but sooner or later you can say that you have made the right decision. Don’t waste your time suffering from the job that you don’t love. Find a job that will make you grow as an individual and be productive.

Most people has this feeling ” fear of the unknown”. What if questions came up and will start to over think things. We always consider the future in every decision we make but we have to do an unusual thing to make change and create a new beginning.

The biggest reason a person stays in a dead-end job is the fear of the unknown. In other words, the devil you know is better than the devil you don’t know. Nobody wants to risk trading a bad job for a worse one. But, are you staying at a dead-end job just because you know it?
