Fitness is our chosen word of the week. It is the right time for it and it’s good to end the old year as well as start the new year right. Happy New Year to you too!
The Christmas holiday is a merry one, as friends and families gather for a wonderful time, not forgetting the beautiful decorations, Christmas carols, and excess gifts. This season also comes with various delicacies to make it even more delightful. It’s no wonder that Brits and others around the world love Christmas. However, the festivities bring about the issue of weight gain. The British Dietetic Association estimated that the average person would eat approximately 6 000 kcals, leading to a weight gain of 5lbs by the new year. On that note, here are some tips to help you get back in shape after Christmas.
- Take your time
If you stopped going to the gym during the holidays, it’s best to take it slowly when introducing yourself back into the gym. While it’s tempting to think that your body will maintain its form, it’s not always the case. Usually, there is the process of deconditioning or detraining, a condition that causes your body to lose the benefits of training. This causes you to experience reduced physical fitness. That said, experts recommend that you start slowly to help your body recover while setting it up for more rigorous exercise. You can begin with 10 minutes of shorter and lighter workouts like walking and jogging for the best results. Don’t be hard on yourself, and give yourself time to condition yourself.
You may have erred from your diet plan during Christmas, but you can still get back on track. Your body needs the suitable nutrients to return you to your desired weight, so keep this in mind. Fortunately, there are various ways to stick to a sustainable and healthy diet plan. For starters, ensure that your meals contain whole foods such as eggs, dairy, fruit, vegetables, legumes, animal protein sources, grains, nuts, and seeds, etc. By all means, avoid the temptation to crash diets. Although crash diets can produce results in the shortest possible time, they don’t last long, making them unsustainable. It’s important to utilize healthy meals you enjoy so that you don’t end up craving more junk food.
- Set realistic goals
It’s one thing to desire a fit body after Christmas and quite another to act on your desires. Therefore, it’s prudent to define what you want and set goals towards that purpose. Well-planned goals can increase your focus and motivation while helping you transition into a healthier lifestyle. However, not all plans are practical, and settling for these options can undermine your efforts and increase your frustration. That said, begin by knowing how many calories you need to burn to get your desired body. As a tip, leverage a weight loss calculator to help you set a daily calorie target. Experts also advise that losing weight at a slow but steady pace is the most effective way of maintaining your progress. That said, aim for a healthy weight loss rate of one to two pounds weekly.
Perhaps you need medical assistance to help you get back in shape. Then you can work with medical professionals like Dr. Govind Krishna, who have helped millions of people to achieve their perfect bodies. Besides, working with trained professionals reduces risks, so keep this in mind.
Consider it this way: We are all in this together as most persons have this goal in common at this time of the year. For this reason, our word of the week is fitness. We will try to take a hold of things and start the cycle of fitness once again.

Happy new year and good luck with your fitness goals this year. One of the nice things about going away for Christmas was having access to a very quiet gym so it was a great way of getting a little bit of me-time and keeping up with my exercise over the festive period. Slow and steady is a good approach when it comes to weight loss. #WotW
