Is Black Friday even happening this year? Sure it is! Just that most of it will be indoors, unfortunately, which, thinking about it, might not be too bad after all.
I assume that you have a thing or two that you need to purchase, right?
With the festive season upon us, and only weeks to go until the big day, most of us are on the lookout for deals. Whether it is that kids have been asking for stuff (and you have promised it), or you need stuff for yourself or for the home and garden, or for loved ones, most of us will be looking online to score the best deals. Remember though, that we are in a recession. So we have to think about getting the most out of our money. Right? Right!
We have drastically cut back on spending and have decided that this year especially we will have to do things differently. For one, we are shopping less, and have decided to do more customised and hand made gifts like scarves, paintings and trinket holders using air-dry clay. For the things we are planning to buy, (we have our eyes set on a camera drone to help with our vlog) we have specifically set aside Black Friday which is the last Friday in November for this. And we have the perfect plan to get what we want at the lowest price going.
You may be wondering how we will know which retailers have the lowest prices for the products we are after. Well, here is where idealo comes in! Retailers are in the business of making money. And that’s the only reason they are in business. We are in the business of saving money so we are always on the lookout for ways to spend less. Why do you think we did so well on Channel 5’s Shop Smart Save Money? That’s what we do! Anyway, let’s tell you about idealo who are in the business of helping us to get the best deals going.
What is idealo?
I’ll tell you what idealo is not. It is not a retailer so you won’t find them selling products. idealo is a website/app that allows users to compare prices for thousands of products. And when you finish comparing the prices of the products you need, the hope is that you will go with the best deal.
In times gone by, we would be walking from store to store looking for the best prices. Since then, we’ve gone to looking at different retailers’ websites and jotting down the prices we found. Such a chore! With Idealo, you are actually on one website to get the prices across different retailers’ websites. The choice is then yours.
Not only does Idealo allow you to compare prices, but you can also set it to notify you when a product you are watching comes down in price.
Even better, you can set it to check an item’s price history. No one wants to feel cheated when you realise that the product was actually being sold at or below the ‘new’ sale price that you now see. It is, unfortunately, true that some retailers up the prices on certain goods before reducing them and then ‘pretend’ that you’re getting a bargain. Not good, is it?
My favourite feature on idealo
Barcode scanning
It has a clever shopping tool that lets you scan the barcode on a product and search for the cheapest place to buy it. If that isn’t clever, I don’t know what is!
How to start using idealo
Signing up is quite simple. You may choose to use your email address, Facebook, Apple ID, etc.
You also have the option of using the free app which is available on the Play Store and also the App Store.
The app is quite easy to use and is convenient as it can be easily accessed on your phone when you are out and on the go, sitting in your lounge at home, or making a quick check while at work.
I would personally recommend using Idealo to sure up your chances of getting the best deals this Black Friday. This year especially, we need to be wise about spending. So I would say ideolo definitely has our backs. That is good to know.
So what’s on your list? What are you actually needing this year? Remember what we always say? Make sure you are staying within your budget.
Consider seriously whether you do need the things you purchase. Because an item has had its price reduced doesn’t mean you need to buy it. A sale is not a good thing for you if your money is tied up in a product you don’t use instead of safely in your wallet or bank account.
