It’s so Cold!

This post may contain affiliate links

I don’t know about you but we are freezing over here in Birmingham, England. It’s not all gloomy though, because the days seem to be getting a little bit longer with more light in the evenings. When I think back to how the past week has gone, the best way to sum it up for both of us, is cold. Freezing cold weather is abominable to us. We much prefer to be out in the sunshine and enjoy the benefits.

I did see on the news and on Youtube that a lot of states are having snow. Even our friends and family in Florida said it was colder than normal.

Vitamin D

As we are not going outdoors much and as most days are so gloomy, we have decided to top up our vitamin D levels with some supplements. At the start of the pandemic, we actually went to the pharmacy and stocked up on what people were saying was good for boosting the immune system. We also make and take Nature’s Penicillin which we hope will do our bodies good too.

This week we decided that we need more vitamin D and Zinc supplements so we got those too. It’s easy enough to just add one more tablet to what we already take each morning.

Angry

I must say that neither of us is normally angry or get angry easily. This week though I felt a surge of anger (maybe this word is too strong) each time I had to go out in the cold. For some reason, my fingers and toes seem to not be able to cope with the cold this year. Even with gloves, thick socks, and boots, I suffered each time I went out.

I really want to resume daily walks but I know for definite that I am not going through the doors unless I have to. Does anyone else feel angry when the cold hits?

As I say, maybe angry isn’t the word so maybe you could help me to come up with a word for that emotion.

Finding new clothes

We always put away the clothes for each season when that season ends. This week we were looking for some things and found a whole new winter wardrobe that we didn’t remember about, lol. It brought back pleasant memories of when we used to go out to teach or for the filming of the different episodes of Shop Smart Save Money.

Some of the jumpers we found were actually Christmas gifts that still hadn’t been worn yet. We could definitely have a car boot sale if we were going out.

It still didn’t make sense to get them out because we are still not going out for anything.

Soup

We love things like soup and porridge and we make them fairly often. It really does warm us up for a long time. After making a massive pot of red peas soup last week, this week we made something called pepperpot soup. It’s a Caribbean special. The soup is made with coconut milk, meats, veggies, and dumplings. The most noticeable thing about the soup, however, is that it is green. It is made with lots of green leafy vegetables and also okra.

For our live cooking show this week Wednesday, it was a large pot of that soup made in front of an audience.

It was fun despite the fact that we tried to change the camera angle and faced some challenges. Sometimes it seemed like we were turned on our sides and even upside down! Don’t laugh.

The soup has now been dished up and frozen for whenever we want it. Of course, we have one portion in the fridge too, which might get reheated and enjoyed later today.

I hope you’re managing to deal with the cold (if it’s cold where you are). We will update you again next week to let you know how our week has been.

It has been really cold hasn’t it. My Mum used to say it was too cold for snow! I definitely feel more aches and pains in the cold so I’d much rather stay home and keep warm. Your jumpers look real cosy.

I have been hating the cold weather too. I am not a happy person when I am cold and I hate having the heating on all day when it’s just me in. I have been taking Vitamin D supplements too, I think we really need it at this time of year. Hooray for finding the clothes and that soup sounds delicious x

It has been cold over the last week, although I’m thankful it’s been mostly dry too. Sorry that the cold has made you feel angry when you get outside – I’m generally don’t mind the cold that much, but it isn’t nice when your fingers and toes really suffer with it. Vitamin D supplements are a good idea especially at this time of year when it’s harder to get outside and get it naturally. I take them regularly too. Lovely to find an unexpected winter wardrobe when looking for things! I love the jumpers. #WotW

This year has started off very cold. I actually took the car on more school runs than I would normally as it was so cold. Saying that I’m no good when it is too hot. I’m more of an autumn person lol. I love that you are doing live cooking. I don’t attempt anything live #WotW

It’s been so cold these last few weeks in London too! So glad to see that I am not the only one forgetting about a whole side of the wardrobe and being pleasantly surprised! x
