Seven Cheap Ways to Create a Zen Living Room

This post may contain affiliate links

After a hard day working and parenting, all we want to do is relax in our homes. But what can we do if our living room is less than zen? Here are some quick and cheap ways to bring a feeling of relaxation to your living room.

One of our favourite memories growing up was to come home and find our living room completed changed up and beautiful. This is something we still continue to do today.

Throw Cushions and Rugs

Your sofa might be your favourite thing in the room but then can lack the comfy zen vibe to relax in. Adding some throw cushions and fluffy blankets to the sofas can help create a feeling of comfort. The best thing about using these is that they can easily be switched out and washed when needed.

Added Light

Light therapy has been shown to be a great way to enhance your mood and your living space. RGB LED strip lights can be attached to many different places to create a relaxing ambiance. From under the sofa to behind the TV, there are plenty of places to add a little light and relaxation.

Go Green

Houseplants are the underrated heroes of the decorating world. There is a common misconception that they can be hard to look after. It is true for certain types of plants but it is possible to pick some low-maintenance friends. Ferns are a great choice of the beginner as they need very little care and give out a hefty amount of oxygen in return.

Check out other ways to go green at home.

Tidy Up the Mantle

If you have a fireplace for an electric or fuel fire, there is a good chance you have a mantel too. Over time, these can become cluttered and a dumping point in the living room. Clearing this space of all the unnecessary junk can do wonders for a room. You only need a few pieces to decorate the mantel, so use this space to show off your favourite pieces.

Change your storage

How is everything stored in your living room? Or, more importantly, what is stored in your living room? Toys and books tend to find their way into rooms that they don’t belong to, but do you want them to stay there? If the answer is yes, you will have to work out if your current storage is meeting your needs. Large baskets and floating shelves can help store those wayward items.

Add New Photos

If you are anything like the rest of us, you probably have a lot of photos on your phone. So why not print them out and add them to the room? The best thing about this is, printing is very cheap, and with a few fancy frames, you can update an entire frame to show some of the best moments in your life.

Give it a Spring Clean to create a zen living room

This might not be the easiest option but with some elbow grease and some cleaning products, you could scrub your living room from top to bottom. Washing the curtains, wiping the walls, and polishing the shiny surfaces can lighten a room. And when a room is clean, it is at its most zen. you can check out ways to maintain your home throughout the year too.

I love cushions and throws on our sofa. It does make it feel so relaxed and cosy.
I have photos in frames which I like to swap every few months. I like to see how long it takes the kids to notice. hehehe

Great idea about making changes and waiting to see when the kids would notice.
