Ways to Make Extra Cash in Your Local Community

This post may contain affiliate links

If you’re looking to make a little extra cash without a long-term commitment, then there are several fun ways to do this in your local community. You might not make the big bucks, but even a tenner here and there will go a long way. You could do a couple of quick jobs per week to cover a decent part of your food budget, for example. The best thing is, you can choose the work as and when, so these types of jobs are very flexible. Here are some examples of easy ways to make extra cash in your local community.

Pet sitting

If you’re an animal lover, then pet sitting is ideal. You can simply register with one of the top-rate pet sitter companies and find clients online. More often than not, you’ll just need to pop in and feed someone’s cat or walk their dog while they’re at work. There are also bigger jobs available, for when pet owners go on holiday, for example. Pet sitting is easy to fit in around other work or family commitments, you could even take the kids with you.

It’s nice to teach kids how to make and save their own money from early on too.

Tutoring

Tutoring is a very rewarding way to earn money on the side. If you have a little extra time and specialised knowledge in a certain subject, you could help tutor local kids, or even teach a subject online. You can choose how many lessons you’d prefer to commit to per week, and the best times to suit you. Tutoring might take a bit more commitment than something like pet sitting, but it tends to be paid very well.

Run errands

You could sign up to an app such as TaskRabbit and offer your services in your free time. You can choose tasks according to your skillset, time available, and location. Typical errands may include putting together flatpack furniture, helping people move, and cleaning. You can charge a fair amount for these services, especially if travel is required. It’s up to you to set your price per hour.

Do check out our post on unusual jobs that you can do.

Direct selling

If you’d like to start a more consistent side hustle, you could become an Avon Representative. This is an example of direct selling, which you can do online or in the local community. There has been a surge in direct selling recently, as more people are looking for ways to make extra cash that doesn’t require a financial investment. In most cases, you can sign up for free, and choose how much you work.

Reselling old mobile phones and electronic gadgets

Consider reselling your old gadgets if you still have them. Do you have an old iPhone or iPad sitting in your closet or drawers? Get the most cash for selling your old iPhone or iPad. Use Freedom Mobiles in comparing the leading online recyclers to get the best price for your mobile trade-in. Recyclers on their website do not pay commission. Each one is featured for free and has a trust rating of 5 stars.

Upcycling

Upcycling is ideal for creative types with a little more time to dedicate. You could look for second-hand or old household items to repurpose and sell. The projects may take longer but upcycling can be a very satisfying hobby, and it’s eco-friendly. Here are a few more tips on how to make money from upcycling. The important thing is to find a way to make extra cash that you’ll enjoy. There are several ways to do this that will improve the lives of people in your local community.

Upcycling is one of my favourite things to do. It can be relaxing and you can then sell your makes and get some extra cash in your local community.

Do let us know how you make some extra money and we might just extend the list here.
