As much as we like to keep it positive and be always optimistic, this week we have to admit that it was definitely a challenge in more ways than one. Of course, some good bits worked really well and we have to count our blessings.
On Sunday we had plans to go to an Easter cantata nearby. We chose our outfits and arranged a ride as we both find it a challenge to drive at nights. Anyway, a few hours before the event was to begin, we both just felt lethargic and not in the mood to go any more. We were beginning to get back into our old slump of mostly staying home and not getting out much. But then we remembered that this year we gave ourselves a challenge to try to get out of that slump. We managed to shrug it off and started getting ready only for our arranged driver to say that they were no longer able to give us a ride to the event! Instead of getting back into the slump, we got a taxi there, enjoyed ourselves, and came back home so pleased that we went. The musical items from the different groups and individuals was truly magical and so emotional at the same time.
On Easter Monday Leisa carried on working at the apartment we are renovating and refurbishing while I carried on with our own household chores. It was a lot to get the kitchen arranged in such a way that the painter could carry on working on Tuesday Morning. Well, on Tuesday he didn’t turn up. We called and left several messages and he has still not shown up. So the kitchen is partially painted and we don’t know what’s happening. He’s not returned our calls nor turned up to carry on with the work. Can you see the challenge? It’s mostly the skirting boards that need doing and also neatening up the edges near the ceiling and doors etc. At the time of publishing this post on Friday morning, we are still waiting to hear from him! What would you do? We try not to think the worst but… is he even alive?
We had plans this week to do more and more effort to do little jobs in the garden as the days are getting longer and lighter. We didn’t get much time due to the wind and rain this week. One morning we even got up extra early and went out to get some flower pots rearranged and some faux grass laid. That was a challenge too, but things are beginning to look up. It’s not at all how we want it to look but one day at a time. When Petunias become available, I know that things will start to look up.
I am not really pleased to report that I faced a rather embarrassing day at work one day this week. I think I shed a few tears. I was completely overwhelmed by the list of tasks that had to be done. It wasn’t really that it was too much either. It was just that I didn’t get some of the jargon that was being used (some people seem to have forgotten that I only started a month ago) and just felt stuck. I couldn’t complete any of the work. I did reach out for help but it seemed like everyone was busy with their own workload so no one was answering. I did have a chat with them when I went into the office. They are all so kind and helpful but I guess they didn’t understand the impact of their use of jargon and abbreviations in team chats. I gave myself a proper talking to too, so hopefully that will be the end of that.
It didn’t help that our mom got ill and found herself in hospital this week too. That’s maybe why my tears were so near. She’s out now and well on the mend. But thinking through all the hoops and what-ifs was also a challenge this week.
Well, I hope your week had less challenges, and thanks to Anne for allowing us to share our word of the week.
Oh, I just remember… We had a challenge to study a Psalm recently and to commit it to memory. Well, I chose a short one: Psalm 127. I went blank two or three times when I stood up to repeat it at church! Now I know what children feel like when we give them these challenges and they come up blank. Leisa did beautifully with her long Psalm 75 and it was well received.
All the challenges this week will just be added to my prayer list and my resolve to do the best I can in all things and to not worry about things that I have no control over.
I am glad you pulled yourself out of the slump and went out to the Easter cantana.
I love the photo of you both!
Ugh! It is a shame that the painter hasn’t turned up, it is a bit of a worry. I would just try to carry on the work myself, if I had the paint and hope to hear from him soon.
The weather this past week hasn’t been the best for gardening, I’ve tried but the rain kept coming! I got it done eventually though. All the rain made the soil soft so it was easier to dig. Horoay!
Oh no! Work does sound challenging. Don’t be too hard on yourself though, it is still new to you. I understand your frustration though, my fella felt the same when he first started his job in an office. He just had to give it time.
I am glad your mom is OK, what a worry! x

Leisa is thinking that she might as well do the rest of the painting herself too. I wouldn’t touch it as I am worried about getting the green on the white ceiling and also I am not good with the edges and sides touching the white windows and doors etc. Thanks for the encouragement though.
I’m glad you managed to go out, I admit I probably would have given up myself. It’s a worry about your painter, I hope you hear from him soon. I’m sorry to hear your Mum was sick, I’m glad she’s on the mend now though. So many challenges this week, and I’m sad to hear there were tears too. But, you managed to get through okay, keep smiling ladies x

Glad you had a lovely time at the Easter cantata and persevered with going out. That’s strange that the painter didn’t turn up. Hope you’ve now heard from him. Hope things are going better with work and you’ve got your head around the jargon now. It’s tricky getting used to it in a new job. Sorry to hear about your mom. Glad she is on the mend now. #WotW
