Don’t Order Takeaway, Make it!

This post may contain affiliate links

So you love to have a takeaway, don’t you? Well, apart from busting your waistline, it’s also doing serious damage to your wallet and, well, that’s not a good example to set.

In this post, I’ll share more reasons to avoid having a takeaway too often. Not just that, I’ll also share some tips for avoiding going for the option of the takeaway and then close to the end, I’ll give you some free easy recipes that you can use to create your very own takeaway style meal.

Some healthy takeaway foods like fried rice, fried chicken, stir fry and pizza, can easily be made at home. It's a frugal living idea that does not cost much.

Five reasons to avoid takeaways

  1. They are expensive and these costs do add up, preventing you from saving as much as you could have
  2. They are usually loaded with saturated fat, and these push up your cholesterol levels. You don’t want to risk having a stroke
  3. The caloric levels are insanely high. A slice of pizza can have up to 400 calories! The more meat and cheese it has, the more the calories
  4. It does set a bad example for children if you order in too often as they’ll think this is the lifestyle they should have too.
  5. You are more creative and likely to enjoy the meal more if you whip it up yourself.

Five tips for Avoiding the Takeaway Option

  1. Plan your meals
  2. Always cool down and refrigerate or freeze leftovers
  3. Remind yourself of the large number of calories you are likely to consume if you order in a takeaway
  4. Keep a log of each price of the takeaways you have. You will see that the price is mounting!
  5. If all else fails, freeze your credit/debit cards until you really NEED to use them!

Here are your easy Recipes for DIY

  1. Egg Fried Rice
  2. Pizza
  3. Chicken Stir Fry
  4. Oven Fried Chicken
  5. Jerk Chicken marinade (just rub on your chicken and bake!)
  6. Frankie and Benny’s
  7. Nandos style meals
  8. Wagamma style chicken katsu curry

As easy as that! You can make your own takeaway style food and become a pro at it too! Not only that, but you will be saving money, watching what you eat, and setting a good example for kids and even older ones. Soon you’ll be having friends over for a takeaway.

I have definitely been trying to avoid takeout as much as possible. It is such a money suck! I am currently living in a town that doesn’t have a ton of options for delivery so that really helps. When I was in grad school I lived in a town with a Chinese food place that delivered and I don’t even want to count the amount of food I ordered when I lived there!

It’s so true, so many unhealthy additives are hidden in takeout food! While I love eating it in the moment, I usually feel awful afterward. So smart to make your own version of these guilty pleasures at home!

Oh yes, it’s so easy to just pass over your card details eh? Glad you’ve cracked it.

I stopped to order food when I quited my job at a well known pizza company. I was astonished by how easy it is to make pizza (I worked in the restaurant kitchen) and how cheap it is to make it at home. And it tastes the same, or, if you use your own ingredients, it tastes even better! So I’m with you girls, don’t order, make it!

Tonight I had a lovely Cobb Salad that was better than anyone I would get out and was perfect for me. It is another great reason to avoid takeout.

I never ever have takeout. Like ever. I like to cook too much, and I know that what I’m cooking is real food.
